Freshman Tre Johnson scored 18 points shooting 4 for 6 from 3-point range and Texas beat North Carolina State 63-59 in an SEC/ACC Challenge contest on Wednesday night. Johnson finished 7-of-15 shooting overall. Jordan Pope scored 13 points, Tramon Mark 10 and Arthur Kaluma grabbed 15 rebounds; one shy of tying a career high for the Longhorns (7-1).

Creighton makes it 2 wins in less than a year against No. 1s, with Jayhawks latest to lose in Omaha

Creighton has played eight No. 1 teams in its basketball history, and the first six of those games weren't close. Creighton took down top-ranked Kansas 76-63 on Wednesday night in a game the unranked Bluejays never trailed and led by 17 points. Ten months ago, they knocked off a No. 1 Connecticut 85-66. That was UConn's last loss before winning 13 in a row the way to its second straight national championship.

New Mexico knocks off San Jose State 83-77

Donovan Dent had 20 points in New Mexico's 83-77 win over San Jose State on Wednesday night. Dent added five assists for the Lobos (7-2, 1-0 Mountain West Conference). Mustapha Amzil scored 19 points while shooting 6 for 12 (1 for 3 from 3-point range) and 6 of 9 from the free-throw line and added nine rebounds.

Scott Boland returns for Australia as Mitch Marsh cleared to bowl in Adelaide

  • Popular quick will play his first Test since July last year
  • Marsh expected to bowl in day-night match starting on Friday

Paceman Scott Boland has been recalled to Australia’s team and allrounder Mitch Marsh is clear to bowl in the second Test against India. Australia captain Pat Cummins has confirmed Boland’s inclusion for his first Test since July last year, replacing Josh Hazlewood who is out because of a side strain.

Marsh will play, and is available to bowl, despite suffering soreness in the aftermath of Australia’s horror 295-run defeat to India in the series-opener in Perth. Cummins expects Marsh will be called on to bowl at some stage during the second Test starting Friday in Adelaide. But the Australian captain dismissed the notion of added pressure on his team after the crushing defeat in Perth.

Flagg leads the way as No. 9 Duke holds off Broome and No. 2 Auburn for an 84-78 win

Freshman sensation Cooper Flagg had 22 points and 11 rebounds to help No. 9 Duke push past No. 2 Auburn 84-78 on Wednesday night in the SEC/ACC Challenge. The preseason Associated Press All-American had 16 points after halftime to help the Blue Devils (6-2) hold off the Tigers and fellow All-American Johni Broome. Broome had 20 points and 12 rebounds before fouling out with 15 seconds left for the Tigers (7-1), who missed seven straight shots in the final 4 1/2 minutes.
