Vancouver Canucks Head Coach Adam Foote Reveals Why Filip Chytil Left Game Against The Utah Mammoth

More information is now available about why Vancouver Canucks winger Filip Chytil did not finish Monday night's game. According to Head Coach Adam Foote, the 26-year-old left after the second period due to "migraines he has dealt with in the past that flared up the last couple of games". Foote also said that Chytil is unlikely to play in Vancouver's final game before the 2026 Winter Olympics on Wednesday.

Post-game on Monday, there was some confusion about what exactly happened to Chytil. Foote said he "tweaked something", but followed it up with "I hope not" when asked if the injury was to the head. Chytil only played 7:36 in the game, with his last shift ending with 3:55 left in the second period.

Chytil only recently returned after missing three months with a head injury. He has played six games, which included Monday's loss to the Utah Mammoth. In the six games since he returned, Chytil has zero points and nine shots on goal while averaging 14:23 per night.

Flyers Trade Addition Named AHL All-Star

Though everything seems to be going wrong for the Philadelphia Flyers at the moment, one of their most recent trade acquisitions has quietly been a bright spot who continues to shine.

On Tuesday afternoon, the AHL announced that Lehigh Valley Phantoms defenseman Christian Kyrou, acquired by the Flyers in an Oct. 30 trade that sent winger Samu Tuomaala to the Dallas Stars, has been added to the 2026 AHL All-Star roster.

Because he is remaining with the Flyers at the NHL level through the Olympic break, forward Denver Barkey will be unable to participate, so Kyrou will be representing the organization instead.

Kyrou, 22, already has seven goals, 17 assists, and 24 points in just 34 games with the Phantoms this season, surpassing his previous career-high of 23 points in 57 games with the AHL Texas Stars in 2023-24 with more than enough room to spare.

Although a bit streaky, the 5-foot-11 defenseman has been a pleasant surprise for the Flyers, having gotten him in exchange for a winger in Tuomaala who very clearly had no path to NHL time with the organization.

Porter Martone Dominates in Blockbuster Matchups with Gavin McKennaPorter Martone Dominates in Blockbuster Matchups with Gavin McKennaThe top Flyers prospect racked up six points across two consecutive victories over McKenna and Co.

Kyrou is still relatively inexperienced and just played his 100th AHL game earlier this season, but his production has probably warranted an NHL opportunity at some point, even if only to serve as a power play specialist.

Fans have been clamoring for the former second-round pick to get a chance, and while it may be a bit early, it is probably refreshing to see Kyrou get recognized by the AHL for his efforts.

Kyrou, who is a restricted free agent at the end of this season, has three goals, seven assists, and 10 points in his last 10 appearances for the Phantoms.

Red Wings Still Involved in Artemi Panarin Sweepstakes As Deal is Expected Wednesday

The Detroit Red Wings have emerged as a leading candidate to acquire New York Rangers star Artemi Panarin as the NHL trade deadline approaches, sources say.

The Russian forward, an over point-per-game scorer for much of his career, is reportedly looking to move before the March 6 deadline, potentially with an extension included. Multiple outlets, including TSN’s Chris Johnston, suggest a deal could be completed as early as Wednesday, ahead of the Olympic trade freeze.

Panarin has captured significant attention this season after Rangers management announced they would not be looking to re-sign him. Rumors swirled for weeks about potential landing spots, but Johnston noted that speculation has begun to simmer as New York decides its next move.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman recently listed the top teams in the mix: the Washington Capitals, Los Angeles Kings, San Jose Sharks, Carolina Hurricanes, Florida Panthers, and the Detroit Red Wings.

Bookmark The Hockey News Detroit Red Wings team site to stay connected to the latest newsgame-day coverage, and player features

Friedman highlighted that Panarin’s desired contract could range around $50 million, with some teams considering short-term, high-cap deals while others may emulate the structure of Brad Marchand’s six-year, $31.5 million deal with Florida. The Panthers remain in the mix, partly due to Panarin’s close friendship with goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky.

Detroit stands out among the contenders for several reasons as they possess significant cap flexibility, a deep prospect pool, and draft capital appealing to the Rangers.

Panarin could slot immediately onto Detroit’s top line alongside stars Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond, providing a major boost to a team looking to accelerate its rebuild. The Red Wings also have relatively few long-term contract commitments outside of key re-signings like Simon Edvinsson, making a sizable contract for Panarin feasible.

However, the decision is not without risk. Panarin, 34, is enjoying another productive season with 19 goals and 38 assists for 57 points in 52 games, but a lengthy extension could be a gamble if his performance declines in the coming years.

For the Red Wings, the question is no longer whether they could acquire Panarin, it’s whether they want to make a bold move now to potentially shorten the timeline toward contention. With a deal potentially coming as early as Wednesday, fans could see the superstar in a winged wheel jersey very soon.

LIV Golf tour hits out at decision to only award ranking points to top-10 finishers

  • Ranking points to be awarded at LIV events for first time

  • Saudi-backed tour attacks ‘unprecedented restriction’

The Saudi Arabia-backed LIV Golf Tour has hit out at what it regards as victimisation from those presiding over the sport’s world rankings process, despite seeing their wait of nearly four years for recognition by the system finally end.

It was confirmed on Tuesday that those competing in LIV tournaments will receive official world golf ranking points but only when finishing in the top 10. A statement from the OWGR board said this “recognises there are a number of areas where LIV Golf does not meet the eligibility standards set out”.

The Kings Shouldn’t Be Happy About Breaking This NHL Record

The Los Angeles Kings are one overtime loss away from putting their names into the NHL record book for most overtime losses in history, and it's not the kind of milestone that a team wants to celebrate over.

With 14 overtime losses on the season, the most in the NHL, with only the Vegas Golden Knights having the same amount, who sit in first place right now in the Pacific Division, the Kings have turned close games into costly missed opportunities, losing out on critical points in a Western Conference playoff race that has no margin for error.

A Record That Hurts More Than It Helps

This has been a recurring rollercoaster for the Kings this season; it's been the one issue they haven't been able to escape. The inability to close out close games and dig themselves out of a win in overtime or regulation when it becomes a one-possession game.

Los Angeles also has the most overtime games played, with 23, and a below-average record: 9-14, tying for the most goals against (67) in the NHL with the Golden Knights and Minnesota Wild.

But with all this going on, Los Angeles is still very much alive in the West playoff picture. Despite all the struggles and heartbreaking losses they've gone through, it's still a very tight race.

The Pacific Division has been very inconsistent this season, with no team you can look at and say is running away with the conference or a clear contender. Only three teams are either exactly .500 or above .500 in the conference: the Edmonton Oilers, San Jose Sharks, and Anaheim Ducks. Not even the number one seed, the Golden Knights, are above .500, with a record of 25-16-14.

Three-on-Three Is Exposing the Kings' Weaknesses

Three-on-three is designed to reward speed, skill, shot-making, and execution. While the Kings have had solid shot-making and speed, they have struggled this season to score in the 3-on-3 format.

Whether it's the lazy defense that gets tired in overtime or turnovers that the Kings give up a lot late in games, LA, for most of this season, always loses the same way in every game.

A Warning Sign

There's also a psychological factor to this repeated outcome for the Kings. With Los Angeles constantly losing the same way, especially in overtime games, that chips away at their confidence, especially when the same mistakes keep surfacing.

A team that expects to compete in the Western Conference shouldn't be learning how to close games in February; it should already have it figured out, as we are well into the second half of the season and almost into the postseason.

Now, none of this means the Kings are a bad team; in fact, it means the opposite: Los Angeles can compete with anyone on any given night and is competitive almost every night against the best teams in the league.

But being competitive without execution or clutch is how good teams become average or mediocre, and how playoff teams become first-round exits.

Overtime Change

Now, fans have argued that much of this inconsistency, not only in the Pacific Division but also in other divisions, has been due to overtime games. Fans have even argued that, from a competitive standpoint, ties would be preferable to the constant drift into 3-on-3 overtime matches, especially for several teams that haven't shown any ability to win in that format.

The NHL used to have ties; the last season was 2004-05, before the controversial change in 2005-06 eliminated them and adopted 3-on-3 overtime and a shootout. But there have been no discussions in the NHL about changing the overtime rules again or going back to ties, as other professional leagues do in the NFL.

Jaren Jackson Jr. trade grades for Jazz-Grizzlies mega deal

HOUSTON, TX - JANUARY 26: Jaren Jackson Jr. #8 of the Memphis Grizzlies celebrates after the game against the Houston Rockets on January 26, 2026 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. The Memphis Grizzlies are officially rebuilding even as Ja Morant remains on the roster for now. After trading Desmond Bane to Orlando Magic over the summer, the Grizzlies sold high on Jaren Jackson Jr. two days before the trade deadline for a huge haul for picks and players to a surprising buyer.

The Utah Jazz have acquired Jackson Jr. along with three other players from Memphis in exchange for a package headlined by three first-round picks and four players. Here’s how it breaks down, via Shams Charania.

Jazz get: Jaren Jackson Jr., John Konchar, Jock Landale, and Vince Williams Jr

Grizzlies get: 3 first-round picks, Walter Clayton Jr., Kyle Anderson, Taylor Hendricks, Georges Niang

The picks going to Memphis are their most favorable 2027 first-round pick between Cleveland, Minnesota, and Utah, the Lakers’ 2027 first-round pick, and the Suns 2031 first-round pick, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer.

We mentioned Jackson as a sneaky trade candidate for a haul of first-round picks earlier in the day, but it’s shocking to see the Jazz step up and complete the deal. Utah’s tank is officially over … at least after this season. Let’s grade this deal for both sides.

Jazz grade for Jaren Jackson Jr. deal

You can’t tank forever, and with a weaker 2027 draft looming, Utah decided it was time to accelerate their rebuild. The Jazz’s first-round pick is top-8 protected to OKC this year, so I’d expect the Jazz lose a lot of games to end this season to ensure they have one more bite at lottery luck in the draft. Landing Jackson is a long-term move to add another versatile big man to a core that already includes Lauri Markkanen, Keyonte George, Walker Kessler, and Ace Bailey. If the Jazz hit the lottery for a top-four pick in the loaded 2026 NBA Draft, they will suddenly have one of the best young cores in basketball.

Jackson is in his prime right now at age-26. A 6’10 forward/center, Jackson can shoot and handle like a wing while also being a stout rim protector. He struggles to rebound for a big man, and that will have to be something Utah works around. Jackson is averaging 19.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game this season on 57.4 percent true shooting and 36 percent shooting from three on 7.7 attempts per 100 possessions.

Jackson’s scoring efficiency is middling and his defense feels like it’s slipped from his 2023 Defensive Player of the Year season, but he’s still one of the better two-way bigs in the game. Utah has five-out spacing with Jackson and Markkanen, which gives George more room to operate as a driver and playmaker. Imagine if Utah adds Darryn Peterson or Cameron Boozer to this mix. The Jazz could be scary very quickly. Williams Jr. is a nice addition in this trade, too.

This is a ton to give up for Jackson, but I like the move for Utah. The Jazz have been trash since they traded Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert in the same offseason, and it was time to get serious. Utah has one more bite at the apple in the 2026 draft, then it’s time to start trying to win.

Grade: B+

Grizzlies grade for Jaren Jackson Jr. deal with Utah

Memphis is honest about its place in the Western Conference. Morant, Bane, and Jackson were once one of the most promising young cores in the NBA, but their rivals passed them by. This is the Grizzlies selling very high on Jackson just when his play started declining.

This trade is all about the picks for Memphis. While the 2027 draft might look weaker right now, getting the best pick of Utah, Cleveland, and Minnesota could be highly valuable. The 2031 Suns pick is an awesome future pick, and the 2027 Lakers’ pick could be juicy with an injury to Luka Doncic. Clayton is a nice flier to take during his rookie season, and maybe Taylor Hendricks can get healthy and finally give up to his lottery billing. Hendricks sounded like a poor man’s Jackson Jr. as a draft prospect, but his constant injury issues have derailed his development to this point.

The Grizzlies made this deal while being 19-29 on the season. Expect a Morant trade soon. This front office is one of the game’s best in the draft, and now they have tons of ammo to rebuild from the ground up.

Grizzlies trading Jaren Jackson Jr. to Jazz for massive haul: Full details

The Memphis Grizzlies continued to dismantle their once-promising roster with another major move involving the team's core. But it doesn't involve the star the NBA thought might be traded this week.

The Utah Jazz have acquired Jaren Jackson Jr. in a significant trade that will involve the Memphis Grizzlies receiving three future first-round draft picks and several players, according to a report from ESPN on Tuesday, Feb. 3. The deal comes two days before the NBA's trade deadline and represents a significant swerve after weeks of rumors surrounding Ja Morant's future with the franchise.

The trade, once finalized, would send Jackson, center Jock Landale and forward Vince Williams, Jr. to the Jazz, with rookie Walter Clayton Jr., Kyle Anderson, Taylor Hendricks, Georges Niang and three future first-round draft picks going back to the Grizzlies.

Jackson joins a rebuilding Utah roster that features Lauri Markannen, promising second-year guard Keyonte George and top-five 2025 NBA draft pick Ace Bailey.

He was the longest-tenured member of the Grizzlies franchise after being selected with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft. The 2023 NBA defensive player of the year is averaging 19.2 points and 5.8 rebounds per game this season.

Jaren Jackson Jr. contract

Jackson, 26, is under contract through the 2029-30 season after signing a 5-year, $240-million extension this past offseason. He has a cap hit of $35 million this season that then increases to $49 million during the 2026-27 season. There is a player option for the 2029-30 season.

Nuggets vs Pistons best bet: Nikola Jokic Over 24.5 points (-110)

Nikola Jokic may be on a minutes restriction, but he has shot 14-of-20 in his two games back from a December knee injury.

Coming back from a 16-game absence in that kind of rhythm is absurd and serves as yet another testament to Jokic’s unique talents.

That kind of shooting should allow the three-time MVP to clear this modest prop against a Detroit Pistons defense that lacks the post presence to challenge the Denver Nuggets superstar.

Jalen Duren has a promising future, but he simply isn’t experienced enough to slow Jokic down.

Nuggets vs Pistons same-game parlay

Aaron Gordon’s absence cuts into Jokic’s playmaking. The two have developed great familiarity in their years together.

However, Denver should still cover this spread simply because of Jokic’s sheer abilities.

Los Angeles Kings Make Multiple Roster Moves Amid Mikey Anderson Injury

The Los Angeles Kings have made multiple roster moves ahead of their Tuesday morning practice, the final practice before the Olympic break.

The Kings recalled defenseman Joe Hicketts from the AHL's Ontario Reign. In the same transaction, center Kenny Connors is headed back to Ontario.

These roster moves are likely due to the injury that defenseman Mikey Anderson suffered in Los Angeles' last outing against the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday. He left the game with an upper-body injury after playing just 2:50 of ice time.

While Anderson has been listed as "day-to-day," Hicketts comes in as a depth defenseman on an emergency basis.

Hicketts, 29, has spent the past six seasons exclusively in the American League, the past three campaigns with the Reign.

He hasn't made an NHL appearance since 2019-20, and that was with the Detroit Red Wings, where he played six games. Hicketts has a total of 22 NHL contests under his belt, all for the Red Wings.

The undrafted blueliner has a small 5-foot-8 frame and a left-handed shot. He's featured in 41 games this season with the Reign, recording three goals and 14 points. With that, Hicketts has accumulated 41 penalty minutes and a minus-nine plus-minus rating.

Mikey Anderson (Gary A. Vasquez-Imagn Images)
Mikey Anderson (Gary A. Vasquez-Imagn Images)

As mentioned, Connors gets sent back down to the minors after a brief period with the Kings. The 22-year-old didn't get a chance to set foot on the ice and make an appearance for coach Jim Hiller's squad.

In what is his AHL rookie campaign and first year in professional hockey following three seasons at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Connors has scored nine goals and 24 points in 41 games.

Connors is sixth in Reign scoring and second in plus-minus with a plus-13 rating.

The Kings' next game is on Wednesday against the Seattle Kraken. These roster moves suggest that Anderson may not be back in time for that affair, and maybe not until after the Olympic break.

Panthers Coach Paul Maurice Provides Updates On A Trio Of Key Players

Florida Panthers coach Paul Maurice spoke to the media today following an optional practice, providing updates on three recently injured players.

Those players are Sam Bennett, Brad Marchand, and Anton Lundell. All three players are considered day-to-day and possible game-time decisions for tomorrow’s contest against the Boston Bruins

“There’s a chance they all play tomorrow; there’s a chance none of them play tomorrow,” said Maurice.

Bennett is the most recent Panthers player to sustain an injury, leaving Monday’s contest against the Buffalo Sabres with an upper-body injury. He exited the game in the first period after logging just 5:11 of ice time and did not return.

The 29-year-old has scored 19 goals and 42 points in 55 games this season and was recently named an injury replacement for Team Canada.

Marchand had returned for four games before suffering another injury. He’s missed the previous two games with an undisclosed injury and is hoping to get back into the lineup before departing for the Olympics. The 37-year-old ranks second in both goals and points on the Panthers.

Marchand was on the ice today, skating in a regular practice jersey.

The Florida Panthers winger will be re-evaluated to grasp the severity of the injury.

Lundell is the final Panthers forward now dealing with an injury, as his is also to the upper body. He’s missed the previous three games, but like Bennett and Marchand, he hopes to return to the lineup before joining Team Finland for the Olympics.

The 24-year-old has scored 15 goals and 21 assists for 36 points in 52 games this season.

Panthers' Anton Lundell Returns To Practice In A Non-Contact JerseyPanthers' Anton Lundell Returns To Practice In A Non-Contact JerseyAnton Lundell will be out of the Florida Panthers lineup tonight against the Buffalo Sabres, but he did skate in practice today with a non-contact jersey.

The Panthers are now nine points back of the Bruins for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, and if they are without all three forwards, they run a real risk of falling even farther behind in the playoff race. Their chances of making the playoffs are already slim, and a pair of losses before the Olympic break would begin to shut the door on their three-peat hopes.

James Harden landing spots: Best trade partners for LA Clippers

Add another star to the NBA trading block.

Reports emerged Monday, Feb. 2, indicating that Los Angeles Clippers guard James Harden, an 11-time All-Star and the 2017-18 Most Valuable Player, has become a potential trade candidate.

Harden is averaging 25.4 points, 8.1 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game in his 17th season in the NBA. Yet, even though the Clippers have drastically improved their play recently, they entered this season with the oldest roster in NBA history, so an eventual youth movement makes sense.

There is one team, however, that has clearly emerged as a likely destination.

Here are potential landing spots in a trade for James Harden:

Cleveland Cavaliers

This is the destination that has the most momentum. Both Sports Illustrated and Yahoo Sports identified Cleveland as being in serious talks with the Clippers over Harden. The fit is actually pretty smooth.

The Cavaliers have been waiting for Darius Garland, who also plays point guard, to return to full health. Garland is 10 years younger, so the Cavaliers might be wanting Los Angeles to attach some form of draft capital — be it a first-round selection or a future pick swap — to finalize the deal.

The salaries are practically identical, which matters most for Cleveland as a second-apron team. And it makes sense for Los Angeles, which entered the season with the oldest roster in NBA history. The Cavs appear to be the clear frontrunner here.

Minnesota Timberwolves

This is a team that has been in the market for a point guard for some time. Harden would instantly provide experience and playmaking — not to mention a scoring threat — at the position.

The Timberwolves have made consecutive conference finals appearances, but have come up short each time. Minnesota almost certainly is looking to bolster its roster and give star guard Anthony Edwards a little more firepower. Depending on the price it would take to swing a deal, Harden would represent a solid, win-now move.

Houston Rockets

Ever since veteran point guard Fred Van Vleet went down before the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament, the Rockets have experimented with various solutions at point guard. None has been a long-term fix.

Harden, who played in Houston for a little more than eight seasons, would instantly bring a steady, playmaking presence on a Rockets team that is built to contend right now for a championship.

Atlanta Hawks

They have plenty of draft capital and do have a void left by Trae Young, whom the Hawks traded last month to the Wizards. Yet, Atlanta may not be the most seamless fit, given that the Hawks still appear a ways from contention and given that general manager Onsi Saleh has been calculated in stashing draft capital. The Hawks most likely favor financial flexibility over a pricey veteran.

’Hoos in the NBA: Ty Jerome makes his return

MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE - JANUARY 31: Ty Jerome #2 of the Memphis Grizzlies brings the ball up court during the second half T at FedExForum on January 31, 2026 in Memphis, Tennessee. (Photo by Justin Ford/Getty Images) | Getty Images

After missing the first 46 games of the season due to a lingering calf strain, former Virginia Cavaliers star Ty Jerome is finally back in action and already winning over a new fanbase.

It was a disappointing start to the season for Jerome, who broke out last year with the Cleveland Cavaliers to the tune of 19.9 points and 7.0 assists per game, leading to a third-place finish in the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year Voting.

Jerome’s impressive campaign earned him a three-year, $27 million deal with the Memphis Grizzlies in July, but his Grind City debut was pushed back until the final day of January for the first of a pair of home games against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The 2019 National Champion has quickly made up for lost time, scoring a team-high 20 points in Saturday’s 131-114 loss before following it up with a 19-point, 8-assist, 6-rebound performance on Monday night in a 137-128 rematch win over the T-Wolves.

Despite playing just 20 minutes in each of his first two appearances for Memphis due to a minutes restriction, Jerome is already bringing stability to a Grizzlies backcourt that has dealt with injuries and inconsistency throughout the season. Jerome is shooting 54.5% from the field while showing off his trademark deliberate pace and elite decision-making as Memphis’s floor general.

“[Jerome] doesn’t look like the most explosive guy, but he gets to his spots on the floor because he reads so well the body language of not only his own defender but also the helping defenders,” said Grizzlies head coach Tuomas Iisalo to the media after Monday night’s win. “He’s actually so good that he can manipulate [defenders] to get out of the space that he wants to create or get into the space that he wants to create for someone else.”

With Jerome sidelined and several other key players (including 2x All-Star Ja Morant, who has missed 28 games this season) in and out of the lineup, the Grizzlies went just 18-28 in their first 46 games, leaving them currently three games out of the play-in equation in the Western Conference.

In other pro ’Hoos news, De’Andre Hunter made headlines over the weekend as he was dealt from the Cavaliers to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Dennis Schroder and Keon Ellis ahead of February 5th’s NBA trade deadline.

It hasn’t been the season that many envisioned for Hunter, who averaged 14.0 points in 43 games this season with Cleveland on 42.3% shooting from the floor and a career-low 30.8% from beyond the arc. But a new home might be exactly what is needed for the 2019 fourth-overall pick. The Kings, which have a league-worst 12 wins this season, are in full-on tank mode, meaning we won’t be seeing Hunter back in the postseason this spring. However, Sacramento could be a perfect spot for the former ’Hoo to become an offensive focal point and once again show the league what he’s capable of in the right environment.

Reds make Eugenio Suárez signing official, designate Ben Rortvedt for assignment

It appears the Cincinnati Reds will not be carrying three catchers to begin the 2026 regular season. What they most certainly will be carrying, though, is one Eugenio Suárez.

The Reds made their signing of Geno official on Tuesday afternoon, designating catcher Ben Rortvedt for assignment in the process in order to make room on the 40-man roster.

Geno will wear #28 this time around, and he’ll once again do so while incredibly happy to be plying his trade for the Reds. When speaking to the media shortly after his 1-year, $15 million deal was made official, he noted that Cincinnati was ‘where you want to be,’ as ESPN 1530’s Mike Petraglia relayed.

As for Rortvedt, the out-of-options catcher was DFA’d to make room on the roster before ever actually appearing in a game for the Reds. He was claimed off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers back in mid-November, initially having been a Dodger in the first place after being dealt there by the Tampa Bay Rays in the very same three-team trade that brough Zack Littell to the Reds at the July 31st trade deadline.

He was never really expected to crack the Opening Day roster, and being out of options meant the Reds couldn’t simply stash him in AAA to keep him around. I’m assuming their hope is that he clears waivers and remains in the organization as a non-roster guy, but if he happens to get claimed after being DFA’s I would certainly expect the Reds to bring in another non-roster catcher before spring camp gets underway in Goodyear in a little over a week and a half.

Best NBA Player Props Today for February 3: Born in the Dark

It’s a jam-packed night of hoops action with 10 games on the NBA schedule. That means a seemingly nonstop supply of NBA player props.

I’ve scoured the odds and found my best bets for today, which include Jalen Johnson cleaning the glass in a matchup vs. the Heat, and Desmond Bane staying hot against the Thunder.

Those and more NBA picks, for Tuesday, January 3, below.

Prop #1: Jalen Johnson Over 11.5 rebounds

+105 at bet365

Fading the Miami Heat on the glass has been profitable, so we’ll keep that up by backing one of the best rebounders in the NBA, Jalen Johnson.

The newly minted All-Star is hauling down 10.5 rebounds per game this season, and that’s up to 13.5 over his last six outings.

The matchup with the Heat is so enticing because of their high tempo. They lead the NBA in pace and field-goal attempts per game, which means a lot of boards. Miami also surrenders the second most rebounds per game.

Prop #2: Coby White Over 5.5 assists

+115 at bet365

All the rumors surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo potentially being traded still can’t distract from the product the Milwaukee Bucks are putting on the court.

They’ve lost eight of nine and have the fourth-worst defensive rating since the start of January. The Bucks also allow the fourth-most assists per possession during that period. That has me looking at Coby White.

The Chicago Bulls guard is averaging 5.4 assists per game over his last seven games, topping 4.5 four times over that stretch.

Prop #3: Desmond Bane Over 18.5 points

+100 at bet365

Desmond Bane is doing his best to bring the sparkle back to this Orlando Magic team.

Bane is putting up 21.4 points while shooting 42.3% from three over the last 10 games, and I love him to keep firing tonight against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

OKC's defensive effort has been a little more inconsistent this season, and slowing down guards has been a problem. The Thunder surrender the third-most points and the fourth-highest opponent 3-point shooting percentage to opposing guards.

At even money, Bane’s a great bet to go Over a number he’s topped in six straight.

Pittsburgh Penguins At New York Islanders Preview: Lineup Changes, Where To Watch

The Pittsburgh Penguins saw their six-game winning streak snapped by the Ottawa Senators on Monday night and will try to bounce back in their biggest regular-season game to date on Tuesday against the New York Islanders

In fact, this is probably the biggest Penguins game since they played the Boston Bruins on Apr. 13, 2024, with all of their playoff hopes on the line.

A regulation win for the Penguins would give them a four-point cushion on the Islanders with two games in hand. However, a regulation win for the Islanders would pull them even with the Penguins for second in the Metropolitan Division.

The Islanders enter this game losers of two-straight games and didn't look good in a 4-1 loss to the Washington Capitals on Monday. They'll have Ilya Sorokin for Tuesday's game, which is a big deal since he's arguably been the best goaltender in the NHL this year and has covered up many of their defensive warts. Sorokin leads the NHL with 27 goals saved above expected and also has a .916 save percentage and a 2.44 goals-against average.

Rookie defenseman Matthew Schaefer is having a fantastic season for the Islanders, compiling 15 goals and 37 points in 56 games. He's been exceptional in his own zone, and his skating is breathtaking.

Don't forget about Mathew Barzal, either. His edgework is elite, and he's having a really good season with 15 goals and 47 points in 55 games. Bo Horvat earned his way to the Team Canada Olympic roster this season and has 21 goals and 35 points in 42 games.

The Penguins will get Bryan Rust back from his three-game suspension on Tuesday, which could be huge for Sidney Crosby. Crosby hasn't been himself for the last week, so getting his linemate back might jumpstart him.

Stuart Skinner is set to start in goal after Arturs Silovs started on Monday. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on TNT and HBO Max. Fans can also listen to the game on 105.9 'The X.'
