Josh Hazlewood ruled out of second Test in huge blow for Australia

Australia’s bid to regain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy has taken another hit after Josh Hazlewood was ruled out of the second Test with a side strain.

Already sweating on the fitness of Mitch Marsh, Australia suffered a further blow on Saturday when medical staff put Hazlewood on ice for the day-night Test in Adelaide with a sore left side. The injury is not thought to be serious and Hazlewood will remain around the Test squad ahead of the third Test in Brisbane.

Jordan Sears, Cam Carter propel LSU to 77-53 victory over Northwestern State

Jordan Sears scored 18 on nothing but 3-pointers and Cam Carter scored all 15 of his points in the second half as LSU overcame a sluggish first half to cruise past Northwestern State 77-53 on Friday night. Sears made 6 of 11 shots from beyond the arc and grabbed five rebounds for the Tigers (6-1), who improved to 4-0 at home. Carter missed three shots — all 3-pointers — in the first half.

No. 5 Texas routs New Mexico State 90-50 at Gulf Coast Showcase

Madison Booker scored 21 points and Taylor Jones added 20 as fifth-ranked Texas pulled away from New Mexico State 90-50 in the first round of the Gulf Coast Showcase women’s basketball tournament on Friday. With former Texas coach Jody Conradt coach looking on, Texas went on a 12-0 run to take a 19-8 lead. Helped by another 9-0 run and a Booker 3-pointer at the buzzer, the Longhorns went up 41-25 at halftime.

North Florida earns 78-73 victory against SIU-Edwardsville

Josh Harris had 20 points in North Florida's 78-73 win over SIU-Edwardsville on Friday night. Harris added nine rebounds for the Ospreys (5-2). Nate Lliteras added 13 points while shooting 3 for 9 (2 for 4 from 3-point range) and 5 of 10 from the free-throw line while he also had seven rebounds.

Hunter scores 16, Wiggins 15 as Clemson beats FAMU 86-58

Chase Hunter scored 16 points and Chauncey Wiggins added 15 to help Clemson beat Florida A&M 86-58 Friday night. Jaeden Zackery finished with 13 points and Viktor Lahkin 12 for Clemson (7-1). Ian Schieffelin scored a season-low five points on 2-of-7 shooting but grabbed 15 rebounds.
