Mikal Bridges’ NBA Finals heartbreak comes with important Knicks lesson

An image collage containing 2 images, Image 1 shows Mikal Bridges of the New York Knicks celebrating after a 3-pointer, Image 2 shows Mikal Bridges #25 of the Phoenix Suns looks on during Game 6 of the 2021 NBA Finals on June 20, 2021 at Fiserv Forum

SAN ANTONIO — The final frontier awaits. What the Knicks have dreamt of since childhood, what they’ve chased as men.

On a team that won the Eastern Conference for the first time in 27 years and is seeking its first title in 53 years, OG Anunoby is the only player with a ring, but he has never played a minute in the NBA Finals. Jordan Clarkson made the trip with the 2018 Cavaliers, but barely saw the floor in Cleveland’s four-game sweep against Golden State.

Only Mikal Bridges has seen significant action on this stage, starting for the Suns in the 2021 NBA Finals.

Phoenix entered that series against Milwaukee as the favorite and won the first two games by double digits, leaving the level-headed swingman uncharacteristically overconfident that he would be adding another ring to his collection from Villanova.

“I remember going up 2-0 [and] I thought we was good,” Bridges told teammates Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart on the “Roommates Show” in 2024. “We ’bout to win the chip, especially in the West, especially then, the West all had tough teams. East, we were like, whatever … We go see Milwaukee, we’re over here like, ‘Pfft.’ I’m like, ‘It’s light. It’s the East. It’s Milwaukee. I know they got Giannis [Antetokounmpo] and obviously they got hoopers, but the West is tougher than the East.’ We’re like, ‘We good.’ Go up 2-0, we’re looking like, ‘Exactly. This is what we’ve been talking about. It’s the East, bruh. We’re about to win this.’ And then they went on to win four straight. I just couldn’t believe it.”

Bridges was a big reason the Suns were in position to win their first NBA title, scoring 27 points in Game 2 to put his team in control. But the former Villanova star disappeared in the final four games, averaging just over four shots per game despite hitting 53 percent from the field and nearly 43 percent on 3-pointers in the series.

Five years later, Bridges, 29, has put his fingerprints all over the Knicks’ dominant postseason run. Since being benched during a scoreless performance in Game 3 of the first-round series against Atlanta, he has demonstrated newfound aggressiveness, averaging 18.7 points (shooting over 62 percent from the field) while shutting down multiple All-Star guards on the other end of the floor.

Bridges has helped the Knicks build one of the longest postseason winning streaks of all time (11), along with the largest point differential (+19.4 per game) of any team ever to reach the NBA Finals.

But a title will never be taken for granted again.

“[There are] a lot of questions, a lot of talk about how great we are, how great we’ve been,” Bridges recently said. “It doesn’t matter. We just got to worry about being ourselves and stay locked in.

“It’s great to get there, but that’s not our main goal.”

Well, it’s time for a new series. I’m not sure if that’s the good news or the bad news, but the San Francisco Giants are in cheeseland for a quartet of games against the Milwaukee Brewers.

It begins tonight, with right-hander Landen Roupp on the mound. Through 11 starts, Roupp is 3-3 with a 3.30 ERA, a 2.66 FIP, and 68 strikeouts to 22 walks in 60 innings. He pitched five innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks in his last start, giving up four runs and two earned runs.

On the other side is lefty Shane Drohan, a rookie. Drohan is an opener for the Brewers, and in 11 games is 2-1 with a 2.63 ERA, a 2.38 FIP, and 28 strikeouts to eight walks in 27.1 innings. He tossed two shutout innings against the St. Louis Cardinals in his last game.

Enjoy the game, everyone! Go Giants!

Former NBA coach, Basketball Hall of Famer Rick Adelman dies at 79

Long-time former NBA coach and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame enshrinee Rick Adelman died Monday, June 1, the NBA Coaches Association (NBCA) announced. Adelman was 79.

Adelman coached 29 seasons in the NBA, with head coaching stops at the Portland Trail Blazers, Golden State Warriors, Sacramento Kings, Houston Rockets and Minnesota Timberwolves. Over that span, he compiled a 1,042-749 (.582) record and reached the postseason 16 times.

His 1,791 games coaches ranks 12th all-time, and his total for victories ranks 10th.

“The Sacramento Kings organization is deeply saddened by the passing of Rick Adelman, a beloved coach whose leadership, character, and vision helped define an era of Kings basketball that inspired our city and captivated fans around the world,” the team said Monday in a statement.

“During his eight seasons in Sacramento, he led the team to unprecedented success and helped create some of the most memorable moments in franchise history. For an entire generation of Kings fans, Coach Adelman represented the very best of Sacramento basketball, and he will be remembered for the way he inspired those around him – with humility, integrity, kindness, and an unwavering belief in the power of teamwork."

Adelman led the Trail Blazers, who featured star players like Clyde Drexler and Terry Porter, to two NBA Finals appearances, in 1990 and 1992.

The father of current Denver Nuggets head coach David Adelman, Rick also played seven seasons in the NBA for the San Diego Rockets, Portland Trail Blazers, Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Jazz and Kansas City-Omaha Kings.

As a player, Adelman averaged 7.7 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game, across 462 appearances.

Adelman was inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame in 2021, and he received the NBCA Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023.

Known for empowering bigs to be more involved in the passing game, Adelman helped evolve NBA offenses to showcase off-ball movement. He also allowed his players to read defenses in real time and play off of each other based on the looks the opposition was giving.

His “corners” offense was an evolution of the Princeton offense and sought big men to anchor the offense from the top of the key, where wings could cut to the basket.

Adelman became most known for his success with the Kings, where he used big men Chris Webber and Vlade Divac to help create a free-flowing offense, with guards like Jason Williams, Peja Stojaković and Doug Christie providing highlight plays.

In the five seasons from 1998-2003, the Kings never finished lower than third in points per game and were first in pace in four of those seasons.

It’s a style Adelman’s son is keeping alive today with the Nuggets and three-time Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokić.

Dallas Mavericks to change arenas following 2030-2031 season

The Dallas Mavericks are moving arenas.

Following the conclusion of the 2030-2031 season — which marks the end of the team’s 30-year lease with the city of Dallas — the Mavericks will move north to where the old Valley View Mall used to be in northern Dallas to play their home games.

The Mavericks moved to the American Airlines Center in 2001 after leaving Reunion Arena for a “state of the art arena.” The team entered into a co-lease with the Dallas Stars to play their home games there for 30 seasons with team options to extend throughout the agreement. The team informed the city today that it would not be renewing its lease and purchased 104 acres of land where the old mall used to be.

The Stars have been in talks in recent weeks to move to an arena in Plano as well, completely deserting downtown and leaving it with only one major sports team — the Dallas Wings. The Wings currently play home games in Arlington’s College Park Center but will reportedly move to downtown Dallas for the 2027 season.

There had been speculation over the last few months that Dallas City Hall could be a new location for an arena that would keep the team in downtown Dallas where it’s been since the team’s inception in 1980, but the City Council has dragged its feet in recent meetings over whether to demolish the building or invest in renovating the structure for City Council use.

The Mavericks were done waiting.

The move ends an era in downtown Dallas sports history. The Mavericks will have played their first 51 seasons of basketball in the area before moving north in 2031 to build an entertainment district and new arena that the Dallas Morning News estimates could impact the city’s sports landscape for decades.

The team plans to build a new corporate headquarters, training facility, a luxury hotel, and a separate 5,000-seat theater for concerts and smaller sporting events, DMN reported Monday.

Four Former Canucks To Take Part In The 2026 Stanley Cup Final

Four former Vancouver Canucks will take part in the 2026 Stanley Cup Final pitting the Carolina Hurricanes against the Vegas Golden Knights

Carolina, a strong team throughout the post-season, swept both the Ottawa Senators and Philadelphia Flyers before taking down the Montréal Canadiens in five games. This is their first Stanley Cup Final appearance since their championship win in 2006.

Vegas, who defeated the Utah Mammoth and Anaheim Ducks in six games, swept the President’s Trophy-winning Colorado Avalanche in the Western Conference Final to advance to their third Stanley Cup Final since their inaugural season in 2017–18.

Last year, five former Canucks took part in the Stanley Cup Final, with Nate Schmidt, Jonah Gadjovich, and Roberto Luongo (Advisor) of the Florida Panthers defeating Vasily Podkolzin and Troy Stecher of the Edmonton Oilers in six games.

These are the four former Canucks who will take part in the 2026 Stanley Cup Final.

Jalen Chatfield, Carolina Hurricanes

Chatfield spent less than 20 games with the Canucks, but stuck with the organization in the AHL for four seasons. He signed with Carolina in July of 2021 and has remained with the Hurricanes since. In his first season with Carolina, he won the Calder Cup Championship with their AHL-affiliate, the Chicago Wolves.

During the 2025–26 regular season, Chatfield put together a career-high in assists with 15. He also took on a much larger chunk of minutes, averaging over 20 minutes per game through 72 matchups. The defenceman has already hit career-highs in playoff points and TOI this year, scoring a goal and four assists and averaging 22:12 minutes in 13 post-season games.

Nic Dowd, Vegas Golden Knights

Dowd was a Canuck for less than one full season, skating in only 40 games for Vancouver in 2017–18, before joining the Washington Capitals for nearly eight years. The forward was traded to the Golden Knights ahead of this year’s trade deadline in exchange for goaltender Jesper Vikman and a 2027 third-round pick and a 2029 second-round pick.

As a staple centre in Vegas’ bottom-six, Dowd has been one of the players that have performed well for the Golden Knights throughout their current playoff run, but has fallen under the radar. The centre has scored three goals and put up an assist in 16 games this post-season, potting two of these goals in his team’s series against the Avalanche.

Ben Hutton, Vegas Golden Knights

Hutton was drafted by the Canucks in the fifth round of the 2012 NHL Draft, playing for Vancouver from the 2015–16 season to 2018–19. The defenceman skated with the Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks, and Toronto Maple Leafs before finding a home in Vegas during the 2021–22 season. He hoisted the Stanley Cup as a member of the Vegas team that won the championship in 2023.

So far this post-season, Hutton has played in a total of seven games for Vegas — six against ex-team Anaheim and one against the Avalanche — already five more than his total from the 2023 post-season. The defenceman collected an assist in Game 1 of the Western Conference Final, with this being his first career NHL playoff point.

John Tortorella, Vegas Golden Knights

Tortorella’s time in Vancouver was polarizing, to say the least. The ex-Canucks head coach’s stint in Vancouver lasted through only the 2013–14 season, with Tortorella bringing the Canucks to a record of 36–35–11 during this span of time. Vancouver did not make the post-season during Tortorella’s time as head coach.

When the Golden Knights made the decision to replace head coach Bruce Cassidy with Tortorella at the end of March, many voiced opinions ranging from both concern and praise. Since then, however, Tortorella and the Golden Knights have lost only four post-season games, with Vegas’ record under their new head coach being 19–4–1 dating back to when he was hired.

2026 Stanley Cup Final Schedule:

Game 1: June 2, 5:00 pm PT

Game 2: June 4, 5:00 pm PT

Game 3: June 6, 5:00 pm PT

Game 4: June 9, 5:00 pm PT

*Game 5: June 11, 5:00 pm PT

*Game 6: June 14, 5:00 pm PT

*Game 7: June 17, 5:00 pm PT

Warriors star Curry lands long-term shoe and apparel deal with Chinese sportswear company Li-Ning

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Stephen Curry has a new long-term shoe and apparel deal with Chinese sportswear company Li-Ning.

The Golden State star's Curry Brand announced Monday the partnership to keep building Curry's global reach in basketball, golf and lifestyle. Curry and Li-Ning will team up on brand creation and product development along with sports culture initiatives with what they called “a shared commitment to inspiring the next generation of athletes around the world.”

Curry called it "the partnership of a lifetime.” He wore the Li-Ning shoes of both Dwyane Wade and teammate Jimmy Butler earlier this year during what was considered a sneaker free-agency process.

The 38-year-old Curry parted ways with Under Armour last November after more than a decade, then began wearing different shoes almost nightly the rest of the season — pulling pairs from a large crate parked by his locker at Chase Center.

Lenni Hämeenaho, Fresh Off Gold Medal, Is Ready For Big Things With Devils

When the New Jersey Devils selected Lenni Hämeenaho with their second-round pick (58th overall) in the 2023 NHL Draft, they believed that they were getting a talented player who could be a great contributor at the NHL level.

Through his first year pro in North America, it is obvious that this is the case. Hämeenaho spent part of the 2025-26 season with the Utica Comets and part with the New Jersey Devils.

In the AHL, he had 10 goals and 16 assists for 26 points in 37 games played. When he played in the NHL, he had 2 goals and 6 assists for 8 points in 37 games. As his role grew, so did his production.

Over the last handful of weeks, Hämeenaho has spent his time playing with Team Finland at the IIHF World Championships. In the end, the Finns won in overtime of the Gold Medal Game to secure a Gold Medal.

To take home the Gold, they defeated Nico Hischier, Timo Meier, and Team Switzerland. That is three straight seasons in which the Swiss lost the final game, scoring 0 goals all three times.

As heartbreaking as it was for Hischier and Meier, it was pure jubilation for Hämeenaho and his teammates. They play a high-effort, smart game that allows them to be successful no matter what their roster looks like.

This tournament had to be a bit of a confidence booster for Hämeenaho, who had 3 goals and 5 assists for 8 points over the 10 games that he played. As a depth player on the team, he played a key role in them getting to the end and winning.

Now, coming off this Gold Medal-winning performance, Hämeenaho should be ready for big things with the New Jersey Devils. He has shown a scoring touch from the wing everywhere he goes, which should play into what the Devils are trying to do.

If he makes the team out of camp, a spot with Nico Hischier or Jack Hughes could be up for grabs, depending on how the off-season goes. Even a spot on the third line with a healthy Cody Glass isn't a bad place to be early in a career.

Confidence is half the battle for a lot of forwards who are expected to provide some level of offensive production, and Hämeenaho has proven that he can do it. If he can bring it with more regularity at the NHL level, he will prove to be a great draft pick.

Coming into 2025-26, New Jersey didn't have a high total of offensive-minded prospects to tout, but Hämeenaho has been a bright spot. He should go into the off-season and then training camp believing that he can help the Devils as they look to get back to the playoffs in 2026-27.

Zohran Mamdani repeals bedtimes for 'New York's Cutest' during NBA Finals

The youngest New York Knicks fans in New York City received permission from Mayor Zohran Mamdani to watch their team in the NBA Finals, no matter how late the games go.

Mamdani signed an executive order on June 1 declaring that bedtimes had been "repealed" during the series as they "should not impede the ability of New York's Cutest to cheer for the Knicks and watch every second."

He was joined at the signing ceremony by a group of children clad in Knicks colors who "signed" the order with their handprints.

"As Mayor, you’re forced to make many difficult decisions. This was not one of them," Mamdani said in a post on X, adding "Go Knicks."

Every game in the series between the Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs is set to start at 8:30 p.m. ET. Games 1, 3 and 4 are on school nights. If needed, Game 6 will also be on a school night as the Knicks try to win the best-of-seven series.

When was the last time the Knicks made the finals?

It is the first time the Knicks have made the finals since 1999, when they were bested by the Tim Duncan and David Robinson-led Spurs in five games.

The end of the 27-year drought has largely united the basketball-mad city with Mike Greenberg, host of ESPN’s "Get Up", previously telling USA TODAY Sports that "the Knicks being in the Finals is bigger in New York than the Super Bowl.”

Steph Curry takes brand business oversees with Chinese company Li-Ning

Steph Curry continues to connect from long range. Even when it comes to shoe deals.

The Golden State Warriors star signed a 10-year endorsement contract with Chinese company Li-Ning, according to ESPN’s Sham Charania, citing industry sources on Monday, June 1.

Curry, 38, confirmed his partnership with the Chinese Company with a video posted on social media.

“The next stage is set,’’ Curry said in the video.

During Curry’s 17-year NBA career, he has remained loyal to the Warriors but been more flexible with his endorsement deals.

Curry began his NBA career in 2009 with a Nike deal that lasted four years. He left the Swoosh for Under Armour, and that relationship lasted until Curry and the company parted ways in 2025.

Now Curry is taking his brand overseas by signing what ESPN characterized as “landmark’’ deal at Li-Ning that “expands his Curry Brand venture globally.’’

It’s not strictly shoes.

The deal, according to ESPN, will include basketball products, athleisure lifestyle wear, a full golf line and the ability for Curry to sign male and female athletes under his brand.

Jimmy Butler and Dwayne Wade are two of Li-Ning’s clients.

Atlanta Braves off day chat and discussion: June 1

I hope everybody’s had a lovely Monday so far! The Braves aren’t alone in getting today to rest, as nearly half the league is off. If you want or need a baseball fix, there’s still plenty of college baseball going on over on the ESPN family of networks. Unfortunately for some of the locals (or fortunately if you’re the type who likes to wear red and black and red), the No. 2 overall seed Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets just got eliminated from the NCAA Baseball Tournament after getting taken down by the Oklahoma Sooners. It’s also fortunate for Tech fans that this won’t be the biggest flop in the tournament after the No. 1 overall seed UCLA fell directly onto their faces during their regional. This tournament is already crazy, y’all.

Anyways, if you haven’t given college baseball a try then now is the perfect time to do so. ABSincewayback is going to be covering the results from a Braves MLB Draft perspective, so stay tuned for that.

If all of that amateur baseball doesn’t interest you, then the Marlins and the Nationals have a pretty fun pitching matchup going tonight. Sandy Alcantara is taking on Cade Cavalli, so if you want to watch some big league action then that could be fun. You could just also watch whatever you want, it’s an off day, there’s no rules.

Game Thread: White Sox (32-27) at Twins (27-33)

The vibes on the South Side have shifted in a hurry. The White Sox enter tonight’s matchup with the Twins riding a 6-1 week that included a statement sweep of the Tigers. Now comes another test against an AL Central rival, as Chicago heads to Minnesota looking to keep the momentum rolling.

The challenge won’t be easy. The Twins hand the ball to righthander Joe Ryan, who was dominant against the White Sox just last week. Ryan carved through Chicago’s lineup for 7 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out nine and issuing no walks, earning a quality start. On the season, the veteran owns a 3-3 record with a 2.94 ERA and sparkling 0.93 WHIP.

Ryan attacks hitters with a deep six-pitch arsenal led by his four-seam fastball (43.1%), while mixing in a knuckle curve (13.6%), sweeper (13.2%), sinker (12.5%), splitter (10.2%), and slider (7.5%). The White Sox will need a more disciplined approach than they showed in their last meeting if they want to crack one of the American League’s steadiest starters. Ryan rarely beats himself. The White Sox drew zero walks against him in their last meeting. Finding ways to elevate his pitch count and create traffic on the bases will be essential.

Skipper Will Venable is countering Ryan with one of the most intriguing stories in the organization. David Sandlin gets the ball for just his second start after an unforgettable debut against the Twins last week. The first and only batter to do serious damage against him was Byron Buxton, who launched Sandlin’s second pitch of the game into the seats. After that? Absolute dominance.

Sandlin retired the next 18 batters he faced, completing six innings while striking out four without issuing a walk. Of his 61 pitches, only one truly hurt him.

The 25-year-old righthander arrived in Chicago as part of the Jordan Hicks trade with Boston. Originally selected by Kansas City in the 11th round of the 2022 draft, the Royals dealt Sandlin to the Red Sox in February 2024 before eventually landing with the White Sox. His minor league numbers this season were eye-popping: a combined 0.55 ERA in 16 1/3 frames across Winston-Salem and Charlotte.

Like Ryan, Sandlin works with six pitches. His four-seam fastball (44.3%) and curveball (29.5%) make up the bulk of his attack, complemented by a cutter (11.5%), changeup (6.6%), sweeper (4.9%), and sinker (3.3%).

Here’s how the White Sox line them up against the Ryan and the Twins.

A few things stand out here. Venable continues to show confidence in Sam Antonacci, who gets another shot atop the order after providing energy and on-base ability during the recent hot streak. Meanwhile, Colson Montgomery finds himself in the cleanup spot, a sign of just how much faith the organization has in the shortstop’s bat. It’ll also be interesting to see whether Edgar Quero can continue his recent offensive surge from the bottom third of the lineup.

And for Minnesota.

The headliner is obviously Buxton, who wasted no time introducing himself to Sandlin last week with that first-inning homer. Chicago will also have to navigate left-handed bats Kody Clemens and Trevor Larnach, both capable of doing damage against right-handed pitching.

Buxton got the better of the rookie in Round 1. Sandlin’s response after that homer was impressive, but tonight offers another opportunity to show he can make adjustments against one of the division’s most dangerous hitters.

A 6-1 week can change the complexion of a season. The White Sox have been playing aggressive, confident baseball lately. The question now is whether they can carry that momentum into another divisional showdown and a tough month of June.

The White Sox have already swept one AL Central foe. Tonight, they’ll try to make it seven wins in eight games and continue proving that this recent surge is more than just a hot streak.

First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m. CT on CHSN, with radio coverage on ESPN 1000.

The Texas Rangers have recalled relief pitcher Luis Curvelo from and infielder Cody Freeman from AAA Round Rock and have purchased the contract of relief pitcher Robbie Ahlstrom from AAA Round Rock, the team announced today. To make room on the active roster for the pitchers, the Rangers have optioned reliever Gavin Collyer to AAA Round Rock, placed reliever Chris Martin on the 15 day injured list, and placed infielder Sam Haggerty on the bereavement list. To make room for Ahlstrom on the 40 man roster, the Rangers have moved reliever Robert Garcia from the 15 day injured list to the 60 day injured list.

Swapping out Curvelo for Collyer gets the Rangers a fresh arm up, although Collyer’s demotion was probably performance-related as well. Since his most recent callup, Collyer has walked six of 23 batters faced (though one was intentional), and hit two batters. His most recent outing, on yesterday, saw him come into the game with a 6-1 lead in the eighth. He retired just two of the six batters he faced, walking two of them, hitting one, and giving up a home run.

Martin was on the injured list earlier this year and hasn’t really seemed right all season. The designation for the injured list move is a shoulder impingement.

Ahlstrom is a lefthander who turns 27 later this month. Acquired from the New York Yankees prior to the 2022 season in the Jose Trevino trade, Ahlstrom split the previous two seasons between Frisco and Round Rock, and has spent all of 2026 in Round Rock. This year, Ahlstrom has shown significantly improved command, cutting his walk rate in half from the previous two seasons. He has a 2.76 ERA this season in 29.1 IP over 21 games for the Express, with 33 Ks against 8 walks.

Freeman was seen as a candidate for the 2026 Opening Day roster in a bench role but started the season on the injured list due to a back issue. He was sent out on a rehab assignment a couple of weeks ago, and was activated from the injured list and optioned on May 28.

Know Yo’ Foe: South Side Sox

Seems like just a week that vibes were high as we went into a heated playoff clash with the upstart Chicago White Sox. Well, after losing 3/4 in that series, getting swept by the Pittsburgh Pirates, and losing Bailey Ober to an arm injury… the vibes are notably lower. Though, thanks to the general terribleness of the American League and the Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals in particular, the Twins’ playoff odds are about the same as they were last week.

Here’s some good news: it’s Joe Ryan day! On a volatile team, it’s nice to have the ace who takes the ball every five games and gets you a great result nearly every time. The Twins will be facing David Sandlin on the other side, making the second start of his career, both against Minnesota. Byron Buxton hit a homer off the rookie last week and no one else did much of note. Hopefully the bats can make some more noise back at home.

Roster notes:

  • Byron Buxton is DHing again and has played CF just once over the past month since his injury. Coming into the season this could have been an exciting chance to see Emmanuel Rodriguez, Walker Jenkins, or even Alan Roden, but all three of those outfielders are hurt.
  • In the meantime… Kody Clemens has been the go-to option in CF. Austin Martin’s glove isn’t trusted there while James Outman’s bat has been a drag all season long. Outman is likely the odd man out(man) whenever Roden returns.
  • There’s no clear fill-in for Ober at this point. With Lopez, Abel, Festa, and Rojas all on the IL for the foreseeable future, the St. Paul depth is essentially tapped. Andrew Morris has looked sharp out of the bullpen, but you have to wonder if the Twins are forced to stretch him back out at this point. Same could be said for John Klein.
  • In good news: Cole Sands is starting a rehab assignment this week. Those are always shorter for relievers and his return could allow Morris, Klein, or Paredes to work as a true starter.
