Kam Jones scored 18 of his 28 points in the second half, and No. 15 Marquette held off a late run by Maryland to pull out a 78-74 victory Friday night. In game that featured nine ties and 13 lead changes, the Golden Eagles (4-0) rode the sharp shooting of Jones to squeeze past a Maryland team that had won its first three games by 30, 34 and 31 points, respectively. Marquette led 74-66 with 1:07 left before the Terrapins charged back.

Georgia beat Georgia Tech for the seventh time in the last nine meetings. Newell made Georgia’s first 3-pointer in 15 attempts with 8:34 remaining in the second half for a 45-39 lead.

West Virginia on the wrong side of a blowout loss to Pitt on Friday

If Friday served as a test for how West Virginia's season might go, they would have come nowhere close to passing the test or the class that is the 2024-2025 season. The Mountaineers headed up north to face rival Pitt in the 191st Backyard Brawl. The Mountaineers would end up on the wrong end of a 86-62 loss to Pitt, giving them their first loss of the season.
