Lizzie Deignan to bow out in 2025: ‘I showed you can be a professional athlete and a mum’

Lizzie Deignan, the London 2012 silver medallist and former world road race champion, has confirmed that 2025 will be her final year in the women’s peloton.

“Next year will be my final season,” said Deignan, who has moved back to her native Yorkshire after a long period based in Monaco. “It’s been a question that’s been asked of me, over and over, the last couple of years – ‘When are you going to retire?’ – and I have been thinking about it.”

Australia’s new cross-code star Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii has been surprisingly dropped from the Wallabies’ starting lineup against Wales following his impressive debut against England.

The 21-year-old, who was man-of-the-match in the thrilling win over England at Twickenham last Saturday having played the entire 80 minutes, will revert to the bench in Cardiff on Sunday.

Calipari calls Thiero top-10 player in country

Arkansas junior wing Adou Thiero seems to be hitting his stride in his race now in his third year of college basketball, as he's outpacing his previous two seasons by a significant margin. The Kentucky transfer is averaging 17.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1.3 assists per game through three contests with the Razorbacks, which doubles his point average from a season ago so far. Thiero has scored double-digit points twice, including a 24-point performance against Baylor on Saturday and 19-point performance against Troy on Wednesday.
