LAS VEGAS — The Sharks are changing the narrative surrounding them, but it’s not completely changed yet.

The 4-3 loss to the Las Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena was a reminder of both the Sharks’ progress this year, but also that they still are not likely a playoff-caliber team just yet.

San Jose fell behind 4-1 to Vegas because of errors forced and unforced, a familiar story in the recent Sharks-Golden Knights “rivalry”.

“We shoot ourselves in the foot a couple of those goals against, for sure,” head coach Ryan Warsofsky said, perhaps referring to Colton Sissons’ and Mitch Marner’s strikes.

In the last six years that San Jose has been out of the playoffs, Vegas has used them as a piñata, going 22-1-3.

“Maybe in years past, maybe their mentality was well, it’s not our night,” Golden Knights head coach Bruce Cassidy said.

But not these Sharks: Will Smith and William Eklund got Team Teal within a goal heading into the final frame.

Reinforcements are on the way for the Warriors.

Not only is De’Anthony Melton’s 2025-26 NBA season debut right around the corner, but Golden State will add a sharp-shooting Curry to the mix as well.

No, not that Curry, who currently is nursing a quad contusion.

Seth Curry intends to re-sign with the Warriors for the remainder of the season on Monday, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Sunday, citing sources.

Curry originally signed with Golden State back in September on an Exhibit 9 contract and spent the entire training camp and preseason with the team before he was waived on Oct. 18 before the start of the season. The move was expected, and the Warriors intended to re-sign Curry once his veteran-minimum contract could be prorated, starting in November, to fit under the second apron of the league’s salary cap.

The 35-year-old Curry, in 11 NBA seasons, has averaged 10.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists on 47.1-percent shooting from the field and 43.3 percent from 3-point range, which currently is the eighth-best mark in league history and the better than his brother, Steph’s, 42.2-percent clip.

The younger Curry also led the league in 3-point shooting (45.6%) last season with the Charlotte Hornets.

Now he re-joins his brother in Golden State, where he should provide the team with elite shooting off the bench.

Canucks Pick Up A Point But Fall 2-1 In Overtime To The Kings

The Vancouver Canucks picked up a point but fell 2-1 to the Los Angeles Kings in overtime. Evander Kane scored the only goals while Kevin Lankinen made 21 of the 23 shots he faced. Saturday was Lankinen's first game since November 23, as he missed the first two games of the road trip for personal reasons. 

Saturday's game featured not one, not two, not three, but four video reviews. Two goals were called back due to offside, while the Canucks were denied a goal that the NHL deemed was not fully over the line. As for the final review, that was to determine whether Quinton Byfield high-sticked Marcus Pettersson, which, after looking at the play, the refs decided against calling a penalty. 

Overall, Saturday's game was very balanced. Both teams struggled to generate chances at even strength, with Vancouver and L.A. combining for 11 even-strength high-danger chances as per Natural Stat Trick. Even in what was a back-and-forth overtime, neither team was able to create high-danger scoring chances, with the winning goal coming off a fanned shot that happened to land right on Adrian Kempe's stick. 

"I thought we played well, honestly," said Drew O'Connor post-game. "I thought our third period was really good. It was probably one of our best. Overtime, you never really know what is going to happen. I thought it was a good effort. Pretty complete game from us."

Looking at the positives, the Canucks killed off all four of the Kings' power plays. While L.A. did create seven shots, Vancouver was able to protect the crease and not allow back-door tap-ins. Ultimately, it was a step in the right direction as the Canucks went perfect on the kill for the first time on this road trip. 

Lastly, Hughes' ice time is another talking point that dominated social media post-game. After playing 28:19 on Friday afternoon, Vancouver's captain logged 30:13 in this game. Considering the condensed schedule, Hughes' injury history and the fact he is going to the Olympics in a few months, these high ice times may come back to bite the Canucks captain late in the season. 

In the end, there were some positives that emerged from this game. Vancouver's defensive game was structured while young players like Jonathan Lekkerimäki, Aatu Räty and Tom Willander had strong performances. Ultimately, though, the Canucks need to find a way to generate more offence as they have now scored two or fewer goals in four of their last five games.

Mets’ Luisangel Acuña homers, drives in three in Venezuelan Winter League

Luisangel Acuña continues swinging a hot bat down in the Venezuelan Winter League. 

The Mets' young infielder started and finished the scoring for Cardenales de Lara on Saturday night.  

Acuña gave the Cardenales a 1-0 lead in the top of the third, smacking a first pitch fastball over the left field wall for his fourth home run since joining the squad. 

He went down on strikes each of his next two times up, but would strike again in the top of the eighth, this time punching a two out two-run single to left to make it a 10-0 ballgame. 

That was the end result, and he finished the night 2-for-5 with a homer and three RBI. 

Acuña's reached base two or more times in each of his past three games, and he has four XBH's over that span. 

The 23-year-old’s big couple of days at the plate has brought his average up to a strong .276 with 11 XBH's, 16 RBI, a .429 OBP, and a .980 OPS. 

More intriguing than his offensive display, Acuña was out in center for the ninth time in 23 Winter Ball games.
