The Sixers kept up their hot start to the season Monday night at Xfinity Mobile Arena, reaching 7-1 with a 126-107 win against the Bulls. 

All five of the Sixers’ starters scored in double figures. Tyrese Maxey posted 26 points on 10-for-15 shooting and 11 assists. Jaylen Brown tallied a season-best 25 points and 11 rebounds.

VJ Edgecombe’s 21 points were a new season high. LeBron James recorded 15 points, nine assists and seven boards.

Bulls rookie Caleb Wilson had 24 points and seven rebounds. 

Joel Embiid (15 points, eight rebounds) had been listed as questionable with an official designation of “right foot plantar fascia injury management.” He sat out Saturday on the second night of a back-to-back for the Sixers’ win over the Hornets.

“Plantar is a little bit of a come and go type of thing,” Sixers head coach Nick Nurse told reporters pregame. “They’re just trying to manage it. It’s very painful, if you’ve ever had it. It can kind of come and go out of nowhere. So we’re just trying to manage the pain with that, be as smart as we can.”

Nurse told reporters that Dominick Barlow is set to see a specialist Tuesday about the back injury that’s sidelined him to start the season.

“He’s been on court a little bit … not a ton of moving around,” Nurse said. “I think they want to get to tomorrow’s appointment. Hopefully, it’ll be positive and we can get into his workouts a little bit.”

The Sixers will begin a three-game road trip Wednesday when they visit the Pistons. Here are observations on their victory Monday:

Edgecombe slamming away off the bat 

After Embiid blitzed a Bulls pick-and-roll, Maxey picked off Matas Buzelis’ hurried pass to get the Sixers rolling in transition and James jammed home the team’s first field goal. 

Edgecombe got a slam soon after James grabbed a defensive rebound and the Sixers again pushed the pace. The Sixers scored six quick fast-break points, leading the Bulls to burn an early timeout. 

Edgecombe had a dunk-heavy first quarter. He threw down his second when Dean Wade nabbed a steal and dropped off a typically selfless dish to the Sixers’ explosive second-year guard, whose slam put the team up 22-13. 

The Sixers have an abundance of dangerous options in the open floor, Edgecombe included. As he’s already shown with his continued clutch shotmaking, the 21-year-old won’t become anything resembling a non-factor offensively this year as a byproduct of the Sixers’ enhanced star power. 

Over the team’s first seven games, Edgecombe had averaged 11.3 points. He scored 11 in the first period on 5-for-5 shooting. 

More rough minutes for Bona  

Adem Bona missed a dunk early in the second quarter, which stung a bit more when Jalen Smith drilled a three-pointer seconds later.

Bona remained the Sixers’ main backup center. He had a poor first-half stint overall amid a largely negative start to his third season. The 23-year-old big man played well in the Sixers’ victory over the Bucks, posting six points, 13 rebounds and three blocks. Outside of that, his season has been sparse on bright moments so far. It’s reasonable to wonder when Nurse might turn to alternatives like Jabari Walker, who played a good game Saturday in Charlotte, or try James again at the five.

The Bulls outscored the Sixers by eight points in Bona’s first run, cutting their derficit to 40-38. Chicago went in front with a three by former Sixer Buddy Hield. 

The Sixers regained the advantage late in the second quarter. Maxey and James each were excellent as passers in the first half, combining for 14 assists and three turnovers. James fired the ball to Wade for a corner three that gave the Sixers a 60-52 lead. 

Sixers outclass Bulls

Following a third-quarter Embiid fadeaway jumper and two James lay-ins, the Sixers were up 17 points. 

The Bulls cut the Sixers’ lead down to 11 points by the start of the fourth quarter. With Bona still struggling and on four fouls, Wade began the fourth at center. Bona then briefly spelled Wade before being whistled for his fifth foul and taking a seat. Embiid ultimately wasn’t needed for any of the fourth period and only logged 25 minutes.

The Sixers’ lead got as low as eight points, but Chicago did not shoot well enough from three-point range (27 percent) or have sufficient firepower to sustain a meaningful comeback run. The bottom line is the Sixers are in a different class than the Bulls, who fell to 1-6.

As for the Sixers, they’ll wake up Tuesday morning at the top of the Eastern Conference standings.

Blues Assign Logan Mailloux To Springfield On Conditioning Assignment

The St. Louis Blues have assigned defenseman Logan Mailloux to Springfield of the American Hockey League on a conditioning assignment, the team announced on Monday.

The 23-year-old underwent surgery on his right hand on September 28 after suffering the injury in the Blues’ final 2026 preseason game, a 3-2 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks and has missed the first 14 games of the regular season. 

The Blues announced at the time of surgery that Mailloux would be re-evaluated in eight weeks, pitting a potential timeline for a return as early as late November but perhaps it's been pushed forward like that of Alexey Toropchenko, who returned after just four weeks with a shoulder injury after he was to be re-evaluated in six weeks when he was injured in the season opener against the Dallas Stars.

It'll be interesting to see what the Blues do with their blue line when Mailloux can return. Adam Jiricek, a first-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, has benefited most with his playing time, and Justin Barron, a waiver wire pickup from the Nashville Predators on Sept. 28, has also greatly taken advantage of an opportunity. And there's also the case for when Tyler Tucker (knee) I'd able to return, then what? Lots of questions in the coming days and weeks to the Blues' blue line.

Lakers get huge starting injury boost for clash against Heat

The Lakers are getting one of their starting wings back on Monday night.

Ziaire Williams was taken off the injury report for the Lakers’ home game against the Heat after being sidelined for three games because of left foot soreness/injury management.

The 6-foot-10 wing last played in the Oct. 27 loss to the Trail Blazers, recording 11 points, four assists and two steals in 29 minutes.

“The images have been clean,” coach JJ Redick said of Williams’ foot on Sunday. “I would describe it [as] a soreness that just pops up in the morning. He’s feeling a lot better. Just being cautious with the back-to-back.”

The Lakers are coming off beating the Raptors on Sunday night, the first night of the back-to-back set.

Williams started in the four regular-season games he’s played in so far, plus the two preseason games he suited up for.

He’s averaging 11.3 points on 57.1% shooting (46.7% on 3-pointers), three rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.5 steals per game.

Adou Thiero (left knee injury management) was the lone player on the injury report, being listed as out.

Public Skate: Bruins vs. Golden Knights

Welcome to another night of Bruins hockey, folks!

We’ve got some Monday Night Hockey on tap for this evening, with the Vegas Golden Knights in town.

Vegas has been off since losing to New Jersey in Vegas on Friday, so they should be well rested.

Hopefully they flew in early to take in the sites, have a lobster roll, etc.

While not exactly an airtight effort, the Bruins emerged from Saturday’s game with Chicago with an energizing win. Let’s hope they can build off of that against what should be a tougher overall opponent.

The Phoenix Suns have the worst defense in the NBA, and tonight they get Steph Curry and Draymond Green on the road.

Nine days ago this matchup felt like relief. Booker dropped 43 on a Warriors team missing its stars, the bench flipped the game, and we all exhaled after Portland. Since then? Phoenix lost in Oklahoma City, lost to Denver on Booker’s 30th birthday, and sat on a 1-3 record all weekend. Golden State went the other way and hasn’t lost since leaving Phoenix.

So here’s where the fanbase is at: nobody’s panicking about the offense anymore. We’re panicking about the other end. Every opponent has hung 120-plus on this team, and the Warriors just made 22 threes without Steph on the floor.

What to Watch For

Phoenix won the home opener 131-122… still, their only its first win of the season. Devin Booker went for 43 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists with only two made threes, didn’t miss a shot in the third quarter, and broke the franchise home-opener scoring record held by Eddie Johnson and Charles Barkley.

The real story was the bench. Ryan Dunn, Jordan Goodwin, Collin Gillespie and Luke Kennard were a combined +56 in a 9-point win. Gillespie went scoreless in the first half, then rattled off 9 points in 3 minutes to swing the momentum. Kennard hit big shots in his Suns debut.

Now, the asterisk, and we have to be honest about it. That was Golden State’s C team on the second night of a back-to-back: no Curry, no Draymond, no Podziemski, no Horford. It was not an impressive win. And the Warriors will likely want to prove that tonight in front of their home crowd.

Even then, a depleted Warriors group put up 122. The first unit looked discombobulated with sloppy turnovers in the first half, and Booker himself said the second unit had better chemistry than the starters. Rebounding was the other red flag he flagged postgame. These are the two worst defensive rebounding teams in the NBA, with Phoenix at 30 and Golden State at 29 overall.

So now the question is: how does Phoenix stop Stephen Curry? A heavy dosage of Jordan Goodwin could be in order. Even then, good luck.

Key to a Suns Win

Stop the ball before it reaches the paint

Phoenix entered last week with a 124.5 defensive rating, dead last in the league, and opponents are now shooting nearly 44% from three against them. The sequence repeats every night: a guard gets beat off the dribble, nobody stops the ball, the forward helps late, and it’s a layup or a wide-open corner three. Against Denver, Jamal Murray and Christian Braun went 14-of-18 from deep, and Phoenix allowed 54% from three overall.

Braun was a 23% shooter coming in. Golden State’s role guys will get the same invitation if the help keeps collapsing.

Kill the self-inflicted wounds

Denver shot 30 free throws to Phoenix’s 11, and Murray alone took more than the entire Suns roster. Some calls were questionable. Plenty were dumb fouls, technicals, a delay of game, and the Brooks ejection. You can’t give Steph free points on top of open threes.

Start Gillespie, and maybe Oso too

Collin Gillespie had 16 points, 10 assists, and 4 steals against Denver and was +8 in a 7-point loss. Jalen Green had 2 points on 1-of-6 in 25 minutes. The Suns look their best with Gillespie on the floor, period. Against a small, switch-heavy Warriors team, this is also the perfect night to promote Oso. Gillespie said it himself: Oso plays like a point forward and makes the flow easy. Watch how early Jordan Ott staggers and who closes, because that tells you where his head is at.

Who will sacrifice? Who steps up?

Somebody has to sacrifice. Devin Booker scored 43 last time against a skeleton crew. He won’t get that runway with Draymond, Melton, Yaxel, and others loading up on him.

In that same vein, who steps up? Does Green bounce back off the bench or as a starter? Can Miles Bridges keep attacking downhill as he did in his 24-point, 10-rebound game against Denver instead of settling for threes? It takes a team to win. Hero ball needs to fade, and the hunt every possession should be to get the best possible shot. This is not on one guy. It’s on the entire team to buy in.

Prediction

While the Suns showed some progress in their loss to Denver, their defense is still a major concern. I do not see them winning this one, but I hope to be proven wrong.

Offseason open chat and discussion: November 2

While the season is over, Braves-related news continues to roll in.

On that front, first baseman Matt Olson and utility player Mauricio Dubón each were given Gold Glove Awards Sunday night. It’s the second straight Gold Glove for each of them, Olson’s fourth overall and Dubón’s third.

Additionally, former Braves owner Ted Turner, who made the Atlanta Braves a household name through the TBS Superstation, is one of eight Contemporary Era candidates for the 2027 Baseball Hall of Fame class. It’ll be voted on at the MLB Winter Meetings in December, with Turner needing 12 of 16 votes from committee members to earn induction.

Phillies claim two off of waivers from the Giants

The Phillies announced some waiver claims today as they prepare to trim the edges around their roster.

Stubbs announcing free agency was not a surprise. I’d expect him back on a minor league deal. The other four coming off of the injured list is a rule following procedure. Players cannot be on the injured list during the offseason.

Whitcomb is an option from the Giants that basically gives them some roster depth. He played three infield positions this past season with the Astros and Giants, slashing .203/.233/.336 in 122 plate appearances. He offers some versatility around the diamond, a modicum of power and almost no ability to take a pitch. He swings at almost everything. It’s the type of move the Phillies needed to start doing more of to have actual options on the roster in case of injury.

Harris offers the same type of thing as Whitcomb, only in the corners. He was with three teams last year and played well in the minors, hitting .288/.399/.449 at the Triple A level, but failing out once he saw big league pitching. Again, not really much more here than depth that they actually badly need.

Yankees make $23 million David Bednar qualifying offer decision

This qualifying offer should be less controversial than the last one the Yankees gave out.

The club on Monday extended the $23.15 million qualifying offer to closer David Bednar ahead of the 5 p.m. deadline, the first attempt to retain the important bullpen piece entering an offseason in which he should be one of their top priorities.

Bednar has until Nov. 17 to accept or reject the one-year offer at a higher average annual value than he is likely to get on the free-agent market, but less overall money.

If he declines it, the Yankees can still try to sign him to a contract as a free agent, but have the protection that if he signs with another club, they would receive draft pick compensation.

The Yankees did not make the qualifying offer to fellow pending free agent Jazz Chisholm Jr., a year after they gave one to Trent Grisham and he accepted, only to take a step back after a career year in 2025.

Chisholm is coming off a rough season that could result in him signing a pillow contract, making it risky that if the Yankees extended him the qualifying offer (in order to get draft pick compensation), he might accept it. And while Chisholm has plenty of talent, the Yankees were not able to bring it out of him consistently enough, making a split seem inevitable.

Bednar, meanwhile, has proven to be valuable, durable and low-maintenance in his year and a half in The Bronx after the Yankees acquired him from the Pirates. Relievers can be volatile from year to year – even Bednar was demoted to Triple-A early in the 2025 season – but the 32-year-old right-hander may be worth the investment from the Yankees.

Across 86 games as a Yankee, Bednar pitched to a 2.39 ERA with 45 saves and 111 strikeouts in 94 innings, while giving up one run in eight playoff appearances. He did not spend a day on the injured list with the team, having avoided any IL stints for arm injuries throughout his big league career.

Since signing Aroldis Chapman to a five-year, $86 million contract in 2016 (with a three-year, $48 million extension in 2019) and Zack Britton to a three-year, $39 million deal in 2019, the Yankees have shied away from big-money, longer-term pacts for relievers. They have been adept at unearthing cheap bullpen arms from the scrap heap, including two that became future closers in Clay Holmes and Luke Weaver.

But Bednar’s potential return this offseason is especially important given that the Yankees are facing the challenge of having to build almost an entire bullpen. The only sure thing returning is lefty setup man Brent Headrick, who ran out of gas late this season after being leaned on heavily. Fernando Cruz has a partially torn UCL that he is trying to come back from without surgery, which is hardly a given. And their other top reliever from 2026, righty setup man Paul Blackburn (the latest reclamation project), is now a free agent and poised to earn significantly more than the $2.1 million the Yankees paid him this year.

If Bednar declines the qualifying offer, he should have some leverage on his side, even with the draft-pick compensation attached to him. He would arguably become the top reliever in free agency, with the other notable bullpen arms including Padres lefty Adrian Morejon (who was also extended a qualifying offer on Monday) and Braves closer Raisel Iglesias.

Last year, 13 players received the qualifying offer and a record four accepted, including Grisham.

Helenius Out Week-To-Week, Four Sabres Return For Practice

The Buffalo Sabres practiced at KeyBank Center on Monday after returning from a successful road trip, highlighted by three wins over Pacific Division foes San Jose, Anaheim, and Los Angeles.  The club appeared loose and positive after their recent success, and welcomed back a number of injured players, who are working their way back to active duty. 

Jiri Kulich - The young forward was cleared from concussion protocol after taking a puck to the head area before the Sabres headed out on the road trip. Kulich skated on a line with Peyton Krebs and Tage Thompson. 

"Jiri's  back.  He's  passed  his  test,  so  he's  back  full  bore  in  practice.  I  thought  he  had  a  good  day .  He  had  a  couple of  good  days  skating  here. P robably  if  that  trip  was  a  little  longer,  he  would  have  joined  us.  So  we'll  see  what  tomorrow  brings  for him."

Mrtka Looking To Take The Next Step Towards The NHL

Owen Power has 11 points to lead all Sabres defensemen.

Konsta Helenius - Helenius suffered an upper-body injury in the win over the Sharks on October 27, and was sent back to Buffalo for evaluation. Head coach Lindy Ruff indicated that the 20-year-old will be out week-to-week. 

Zach Benson - The feisty winger left the 3-2 win over the Kings in the third period on Saturday and was not on the ice on Monday due to a maintenance day.

"We don't anticipate (him) being (out)  very long,” Ruff said. “I  think it's just day-to-day.  I  know for a fact he's going to rehab skate tomorrow.  Whether  he  practices  with  us,  we'll  see."

Alex Lyon - After a setback last month, Lyon is cautiously optimistic that he is close to being ready to return.

"I  probably  just  pushed  a  little  too  hard,  too  early,  I  don't  even  know  that  it  was too  soon.  It  just  wasn't  quite  right  yet,  and  so I  kind  of  had  to  hit  the  pause  button  there  and  make  sure  things  were  good.” Lyon said. “The  medical  staff  was  very  patient  with  me,  and  they  did  a  great  job  of  helping  me  out.” 

Conor Timmins and Justin Danforth - The veteran defenseman has been out since the preseason with a lower body injury, while the veteran forward has been out since the overtime loss to Montreal on October 17. Both skated while the Sabres were on the road and Ruff indicated that they will see if there is any progress to their condition after practicing for the first time.

Bucks exercise rookie-scale options on Kel’el Ware, Kasparas Jakučionis

The Milwaukee Bucks will exercise their rookie-scale options on offseason acquisitions Kel’el Ware and Kasparas Jakučionis, according to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto.

Ware, a 22-year-old seven-footer acquired in the trade that sent Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat, has played solely in a reserve role for the Bucks to begin the season, averaging a career-high 13.8 PPG to go along with 8.7 RPG and 1.5 stocks (steals plus blocks). But for all his talent and flashes of brilliance, Ware has continued to show the motor and decision-making issues that marred his first two years in the league, leading to career lows in shooting (46.8% overall, 26.1% from three) and minutes (19.7 MPG), despite Myles Turner’s struggles and the Bucks’ lack of size in the frontcourt. 

Jakučionis, also acquired in the Giannis trade—and by all accounts a must-have component of it—has arguably been one of Milwaukee’s brightest spots to start the season. Quickly emerging as a Taylor Jenkins favourite, the 6’5” Lithuanian point guard has become the team’s sixth man and earned enough trust to feature in many of the team’s closing lineups too. So far, the 20-year-old is averaging career highs across the board, including points (8.3 PPG), rebounds (2.8 RPG), assists (4.0 APG), and minutes (22.5 MPG). However, like many of his teammates, he’s struggled shooting from distance, hitting just 23.5% of his three-point attempts, down from 42.3% last season. 

On-court production aside, Ware and Jakučionis figure to be key parts of the Bucks’ present and future, so seeing their rookie-scale options picked up is a positive sign. As per Scotto’s reporting, Ware’s option for the 2027-28 season comes in at $7.14m while Jakučionis’ is for $4.02m. 

Here’s hoping the pair continue to grow as the season progresses.

Giants get down to 41 players on their 40 man roster in latest flurry of transactions

On Thursday, the first chunk of transactions the San Francisco Giants needed to make before 2pm’s 40-man roster deadline. All players on the injured list needed to be activated, qualifying offers made, and player options either picked up or declined. The Giants didn’t have those, but they did have a ridiculous number of players on the IL. They finally managed to get down from the 52 players they were at on Thursday to near the 40 needed, thanks in large part to the waiver wire.

Relievers José Buttó (Rangers) and Duncan Davitt (Reds), infielders Brett Harris and Shay Whitcomb (both Phillies), and catcher Zach Morgan (Baltimore) were all claimed by other organizations while Joel Kuhnel, Seth Lonsway, and Tristan Beck all cleared waivers. The Giants opted to outright Kuhnel and Lonsway (retaining their rights) while releasing Beck.

With yesterday’s Nate Furman’s trade and last week’s transactions — Andrew Knizner being outrighted, JT Brubaker electing free agency — the San Francisco Giants now have a 40-man roster of 41.

The two big question marks remaining: reliever Rowan Wick and outfielder Harrison Bader. Wick has an option for 2027. The Giants had suspended Harrison Bader without pay and may need to roster him rather than release him as part of the grievance process (I could be wrong about that). The roster currently looks like this:

Mets claim right-handers Jack Anderson, Pierson Ohl off waivers

Th Mets have claimed a pair of right-handed pitchers off waivers on Monday. 

Jack Anderson was selected off waivers from the Minnesota Twins, and Pierson Ohl from the Colorado Rockies.

Anderson appeared in seven games last season, pitching 12.1 innings of relief action for the Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins while posting a 2.19 ERA and 1.054 WHIP. He allowed three runs on 10 hits and three walks with 12 strikeouts in that time, his first action in the big leagues.

During his time at Triple-A in 2026, which was split between Worcester and St. Paul, he pitched to a 4.92 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 93.1 innings over 28 games (16 starts) with 79 strikeouts to 30 walks.

Anderson was mostly a four-pitch reliever during his time in the majors, with a four-seam fastball (33.3 percent), splitter (23.3 percent), slider (22.2 percent), and sweeper (15.6 percent) comprising his arsenal. He is not a hard thrower, with his average fastball velocity coming in at 90.8 mph.

Anderson, who turns 27 later this month, allowed a run on two hits with three strikeouts over 3.0 innings while pitching for Great Britain at the WBC before the 2026 regular season. 

Ohl missed all of last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in late February.

He last pitched in the big leagues in the 2025 season with Minnesota. In 14 games (three starts) that year, he pitched to a 5.10 ERA with a 1.500 WHIP with 27 strikeouts to seven walks in 30 innings. That same season, Ohl produced a 3.29 ERA and 1.134 WHIP in 27.1 innings over nine games (four starts) at Triple-A St. Paul with 30 strikeouts to six walks.

The 27-year-old was predominantly a two-pitch reliever, relying on his fastball (43.8 percent) and changeup (37.7 percent) during his lone big league work. And like Anderson, he has not shown much heat on the fastball, with his four-seamer averaging 91.1 mph.

The Mets lost two players in waiver claims on Monday. Left-hander Philip Abner was claimed by the Baltimore Orioles, and right-hander Cameron Weston was claimed by the Miami Marlins.

In other roster moves, outfielder Christian Pache was outrighted to Triple-A Syracuse, and infielder Eric Wagaman elected free agency in lieu of accepting an assignment to Triple-A.

Spurs star Victor Wembanyama didn’t sugarcoat his feelings about San Antonio’s loss to the Knicks in the 2026 NBA Finals.

The 7-foot-4 center recalled Game 4 specifically — in which his side blew a 29-point lead in a 107-106 loss at Madison Square Garden on June 10 — during an interview with “60 Minutes” on Sunday.

“I think there’s two. I think… there’s three,” Wembanyama said. “I would say Game 1 [of the Western Conference Finals] in OKC, Game 7 [WCF] in OKC, and Game 4 in New York.”

When asked about Game 4, Wembanyama said, “Because it’s the most intense heartbreak moment in my career.”

Despite being favored in the Finals, the Spurs lost in five games to the Knicks, culminating in a 94-90 Game 5 loss in San Antonio in which the Knicks secured their first championship in 53 years.

Wembanyama explained that it didn’t bother him that he was portrayed as a villain during the Finals — specifically after his viral shove of Knicks guard Jalen Brunson in Game 3.

“Because I’m not paying attention to this during the Finals. And I don’t think any player on either team really is,” he said.

“It showed my limits more than anything else going out there, you need to play basketball. You don’t need to be beating the s–t out of people, if you want to win at least.”

Wembanyama was candid on a number of emotional topics, including his 2025 blood clot diagnosis in his shoulder, which shut down his second NBA season.

“It had a huge impact on this,” Wembanyama said regarding him being less afraid to say what he thinks. “After that, life is so short, I don’t even want to waste it being somebody else. Simple as that.”

Wembanyama added that he should win the NBA MVP this year.

In six games for the Spurs this season, he is averaging 28.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 4.2 blocks, and 1.3 steals.

Robinson Cano Jr., 16, agrees to $1 million deal with Marlins

Robinson Canó Jr. has a home in MLB.

The son of former Yankee Robinson Canó agreed to a $1 million contract with the Marlins, The Post’s Jon Heyman reported on Monday.

The 16-year-old is set to join the franchise’s 2028 international class.

Canó Jr. reposted various Instagram stories on Monday, showing photos of him celebrating with friends and family.

A photo of him seemingly signing his contract also includes a message in Spanish that means “Congratulations to the best, as always.”

His father, the 44-year-old Canó, made his debut with the Yankees in 2005 and spent nine seasons in the Bronx where he earned five of his eight All-Star nominations and all five of his Silver Slugger awards.

He also won a World Series in 2009 — the last time the franchise won a title.

Canó went on to spend five years in Seattle followed by stints with the Mets, Padres and Braves across his 17-year career that was also marred by two suspensions involving performance-enhancing drugs.

In 2018 while with the Mariners, he was banned for 80 games after testing positive for furosemide, which was followed by a full season suspension with the Mets in 2020.

He went unsigned following the 2022 season and the elder Canó moved on to take his professional career internationally.

This year, Cano Jr. hit .291 with 15 home runs and 72 RBIs in the Mexican League with the Diablos Rojos del México.

The Marlins are currently slated to open their spring schedule with games against the Mets and Cardinals on Feb. 19 in Port St. Lucie and Jupiter, Fla., respectively.
