Astros vs. Angels Game Thread. Game 4, 3/29/2026

The Houston Astros (1-2) continue their opening 4 game series against the Los Angeles Angels (2-1) this afternoon at Daikin Park.

RHP Tatsuya Imai will make his first big league start for the Astros opposite RHP Jack Kochanowicz and the Angels.

TODAY’S ASTROS STARTER: RHP Tatsura Imai is making his major league debut in a game every Astros fan has been looking forward to for months. Imai comes in with an excellent pedigree from the Japanese Professional League where he was 10-5 with a 1.92 ERA in 163.2 INN. Imai struck out 178 hitters and walked only 45 batters in those innings.

Imai put up great numbers this Spring, making three starts and posting a 0.00 ERA (0ER/6.0 IP) while allowing a microscopic .111 opponent batting average with 7 strikeouts.

Jack Kochanowicz Kochanowicz has been with the Angels since 2024. He spent most of last season in the rotation and pitched a portion of 2024 in Los Angeles. His best season came in 2024 when he was 2-6 with a 3.99 ERA in 11 starts. Last season he was 3-11 with a 6.81 ERA.

This spring, Kochanowicz was 0-0 with five starts. He had a 1.62 ERA in 16.2 INN. He had 15 strikeouts and four walks.

VS. THE ANGELS: The Astros open this season with a divisional series against the Angels, who the Astros went 8-5 against in 13 games last season. The Astros are 139-84 all time against the Angels and have won the season series against them in every full season dating back to 2015.

Game 3: Red Sox at Reds; Connelly Early Takes The Mound

It’s the rubber match of the opening series of the season. Connelly Early makes his first start of the season against Rhett Lowder, who hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2024. Both bullpens are spent after a long game yesterday, so getting to the bullpen early should favor the offense. Masataka Yoshida makes his first start of the season in left field, moving Duran to center, Roman Anthony to DH, and Ceddanne Rafaela to the bench.

Rumors: Warriors will re-sign Kristaps Porzingis, try to make bold move this offseason

Stephen Curry may return to the court this season and help the Warriors to make a push to get out of the play-in and into a seven-game series, but for some Warriors fans, their eyes are already on next season.

Golden State is going to make a push to re-sign big man Kristaps Porzingis — to a more team friendly contract — and take a big swing on a star player to put next to Curry and Draymond Green to make one more all-in run with that core, at least according to Marcus Thompson of The Athletic and Tim Kawakami of the San Francisco Standard on the Warriors Plus Minus podcast (hat tip HoopsHype).

Porzingis seems the one thing most likely to happen even with all the questions about Porzingis' health, Thompson said.

"Can he stay healthy? And I absolutely, as we're sitting here right now, believe that Porzingis and the Warriors will work something out where we will see him again next season in a Warriors jersey."

Since being traded to Golden State from Atlanta at the deadline (part of the Jonathan Kuminga deal), Porzingis has played in 10 games and averaged 17.1 points, plus 4.7 rebounds and 1.4 blocked shots per game. On paper, he is a great fit with Curry and Draymond Green, but we have not yet seen that trio on the court.

The Warriors also would need more than those three to make a run in a West with the young Thunder and Spurs teams, not to mention a host of other strong teams like the Lakers and Nuggets. Thompson said people around the league expect the Warriors to make a bold move.

"The league, I think, isn't concerned that they're going to go win another title, but they are concerned that they are going to load up like crazy going into next season."

Kawakami was more specific, mentioning potential targets for the Warriors.

"I'm saying Kawhi Leonard, LeBron James. There's complications with both. But you've heard it, I've heard it. I've been aggregated for just speculating it. There is conversation. I'm not saying from the league. I'm just saying, Kawhi's contract gonna get voided, theoretically. We don't know. That seems to be the number one thing you hear with some other obviously punishment for the Clippers. He could be a free agent. Can you do a sign and trade with a voided contract? I don't. He might not be able to get a max salary is what I'm saying."

The investigation into the Clippers’ allegedly funneling money to Kawhi Leonard through former team sponsor Aspiration is ongoing, but the expectation in league circles is that the Clippers and Leonard will face some kind of punishment. Voiding Leonard's contract would be one of the harsher penalties, and it's fair to ask how serious a punishment that is if he can just resign with another team (even if it is for less money) and the Clippers get him off their books, but it is one option rumored to be out there.

LeBron James is a free agent after this season and his future is up in the air. While the expectation around the league is that the 41-year-old will play one more season, LeBron himself has said he will not decide his future until after this season. Also, the Warriors were in the mix at the deadline to try and land Giannis Antetokounmpo, with Golden State reportedly offering four first-round picks, but at the time the Bucks appeared to be guaging the market more than seriously engaging in trade discussions, according to league sources. The Warriors could re-enter the Antetokounmpo sweepstakes this summer.

One way or another, expect a wild summer in the Bay Area.

Blackhawks Vs Devils: Projected Lineup, How To Watch, & More Ahead Of Game 74

The Chicago Blackhawks have been outscored 11-2 over their last two games. Naturally, they earned two regulation losses over the stretch, which has lowered the vibes surrounding the team. It is an incredibly young group, one of the youngest in NHL history, but that isn’t an excuse for how lousy they’ve been lately.

On Sunday, the Blackhawks are going to take on the New Jersey Devils, who have had one of the most up-and-down seasons in recent NHL memory. Like most of the teams on the outside looking into the Eastern Conference playoff picture, New Jersey will have a winning season, but their playoff chances are in the tank because of a bad stretch in the middle.

Scouting New Jersey

The New Jersey Devils have been better since the end of the Olympic break. It hasn’t been perfect, and there are issues to work on in the offseason, but the Blackhawks will find themselves embarrassed if they treat this like a getaway game to end the road trip.

New Jersey's tailspin happened partially because of the injury sustained by Jack Hughes when they visited Chicago back in November. It was an off-ice injury where he cut his hand while out to dinner. He is one of the top-flight forwards in the NHL, and they proved unable to win at a high clip without him.

Meier - Hischier - Mercer

Bratt - Hughes - Brown

Dadonov - Glass - Hameenaho

Cotter - Bjugstad - Tsyplakov

Siegenthaler - Hamilton

Hughes - Kovacevic

Dillon - Nemec

Allen

Down the middle, Nico Hischier and Jack Hughes are one of the top duos in the entire National Hockey League. Hischier is more of a two-way centerman who emphasizes both sides of the ice, while Hughes is focused on scoring goals and setting them up.

Hughes, of course, scored the Golden Goal in overtime against Canada in Milano Cortina to win the United States their first Gold Medal in 46 years. Since then, he's been one of the hottest players in the NHL.

His younger brother Luke is one of their top puck-moving defensemen, and he will play in the middle of a solid defense in front of goaltender Jake Allen. New Jersey lost to the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday with Jacob Markstrom in the net, so it will be Allen against the Blackhawks.

In addition to Hughes and Hischier up front, Jesper Bratt and Timo Meier round out their "big four", which has been a dangerous group in the second half of the season. For a Blackhawks team that has given up a lot of offense in recent weeks, this will be another huge test.

Projected Lines, Defense Pairs, & Goalie For Chicago

The Blackhawks had to call up Kevin Korchinski on Sunday morning, because imaging revealed that Artyom Levshunov has a fracture in his left wrist. The belief is that he played through it for a couple of games, and now they know for sure he needs to be out. His timeline is TBD.

Jeff Blashill also confirmed, without giving too many details, and it was hard to describe the lines during the morning skate, that Anton Frondell would move to center. This gives the Blackhawks time to see him play that position now rather than next year when they may be trying to win.

Greene - Bedard - Lardis

Bertuzzi - Frondell - Nazar

Burakovsky - Donato - Mikheyev

Teravainen - Boisvert - Slaggert

Vlasic - Crevier

Kaiser - Rinzel

Korchinski - Del Mastro

Knight

These are simply projections based on moving Frondell into a center role. The top six will see some changes as a result, but the bottom six may stay the same as in the last two games. The defense pairs, with Korchinski in there, are how they skated in the morning.

Spencer Knight is going to start in goal for Chicago. Giving up five on Thursday was hardly all his fault based on the team's play in front of him, but he is looking to bounce back as well. With Jack Hughes and company playing the way they have recently, the Blackhawks need Knight to be extraordinary if they want to win.

UPDATE:

Greene-Bedard-Lardis

Bertuzzi-Frondell-Mikheyev

Donato-Nazar-Burakovsky

Teravainen-Boisvert-Slaggert

Vlasic-Crevier

Kaiser-Rinzel

Korchinski-Del Mastro

Knight

The Blackhawks are keeping Frank Nazar at center with Frondell moving to center.

How To Watch

The game can be heard locally on AM 720 WGN in the Chicagoland area. To view this game, it can be found on CHSN locally. Nationally, it is available to stream on ESPN+ and NHL Network. The puck will drop shortly after 6:00 PM CT.

Verstappen again questions his F1 future and says this season could be his last

SUZUKA, Japan (AP) — Four-time world champion Max Verstappen has not ruled out retiring at the end of the Formula 1 season, saying he is trying “very hard” to enjoy racing under the new changes.

The Red Bull driver again openly expressed his dissatisfaction on Sunday after an eighth-place finish at the Japanese Grand Prix, which was won by 19-year-old Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes.

“Privately I’m very happy," Verstappen told the BBC after the race. "You also wait for 24 races. This time it’s 22. But normally 24. And then you just think about is it worth it? Or do I enjoy being more at home with my family? Seeing my friends more when you’re not enjoying your sport?"

The 28-year-old Verstappen said “That's what I'm saying” when asked by the BBC if this could be his last season.

“I want to be here to have fun and have a great time and enjoy myself. At the moment that’s not really the case,” he said. "Of course I do enjoy certain aspects. I enjoy working with my team. It’s like a second family. But once I sit in the car it’s not the most enjoyable unfortunately. I’m trying. I keep telling myself every day to try and enjoy it. It’s just very hard.”

Verstappen is among the drivers struggling after one of the most significant regulation changes in F1 took place this season.

“I can easily accept to be in P7 or P8 where I am,” he said. “Because I also know that you can’t be dominating or be first or second or whatever, fighting for a podium every time. I’m very realistic in that and I’ve been there before. I’ve not only been winning in F1.

“But at the same time when you are in P7 or P8 and you are not enjoying the whole formula behind it, it doesn’t feel natural to a racing driver," he said.

“Of course I try to adapt to it, but it’s not nice the way you have to race. It’s really anti-driving. Then at one point, yeah, it’s just not what I want to do."

Formula 1 now takes a five-week break with races scheduled for April in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia called off because of the war in Iran.

The next race is on May 3 in Miami.

Orioles Sunday afternoon game thread: vs. Twins, 1:35 ET

The Orioles and Twins close out the opening series this afternoon at Camden Yards, with first pitch scheduled for 1:35 p.m. ET. The series is tied 1-1 after Baltimore won a dandy Opening Day opener 2-1 before the Twins took Game 2, 4-1, with Kyle Bradish allowing a two-run Royce Lewis homer in his debut and the offense ice-cold.

So far, O’s hitters have struck out 24 times and scored just three runs in two games. The starting pitching has been very good, though. Hopefully less of the former, more of the latter today.

On that note, is time to see what all the fuss is about: Shane Baz, the Orioles’ spendiest offseason acquisition and new owner of a five-year, $68 million deal—the largest pitching contract in franchise history, all before he’s even thrown a pitch for the team—makes his debut today. Baz is a phenomenally talented thrower, a former first-rounder and Rays No. 1 prospect with an electric fastball. He’s also struggled with elbow problems, having had Tommy John surgery in 2022 and missed most of 2023 and 2024 after that. In 2025, his first fully healthy season in four years, he posted a 4.87 ERA and 1.33 WHIP with 176 strikeouts across 166.1 innings for Tampa Bay. Given what the Orioles have just paid him, he’ll look to improve on those numbers in his new home. This front office seems to believe in him.

Facing O’s hitters for the Twins is the gargantuan 6’9”, 260-lb right hander Bailey Ober. Now entering his sixth season, Ober is something of an unknown quantity. Ober was very good in 2022 and ‘23, with a combined 3.37 ERA in 37 starts, but he’s coming off a rough 2025 in which he posted a 5.10 ERA in 27 starts, and he didn’t inspire a lot of confidence this spring, allowing 17 hits and 6 earned runs in 13 innings with his fastball averaging below 90 mph in all four outings.

Can O’s hitters take advantage?

Game thread III – Royals at Braves

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - FEBRUARY 28: Seth Lugo #67 of the Kansas City Royals pitches during the game between the Kansas City Royals and the Colorado Rockies at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick on Saturday, February 28, 2026 in Scottsdale, Arizona. (Photo by Zach Gardner/MLB Photos via Getty Images) | MLB Photos via Getty Images

Coming into the 2026 season, the Royals had a lot of hype and enthusiasm surrounding them, from the fans, local media and even the national media. I think it’s fair to say that two games into the season, a lot of that enthusiasm and excitement has dissipated. A shutout on Opening Day and a blown save in game two, puts the Royals on the verge of being swept to open the season.

Sitting at 0-2, the Royals will be deploying Seth Lugo for the Sunday afternoon contest in Atlanta. Lugo, pitched in the World Baseball Classic for Puerto Rico, but also a little bit for Kansas City in Spring Training. After a fantastic first season for the Royals in 2024, Lugo struggled last year and was also hurt at different times. Today, he hopes to start his third season with the club right and help lead them to their first victory as well.

Here is the Royals lineup for today’s contest.

It’s not much different than last night’s lineup against Reynaldo Lopez, except Nick Loftin starts at second base instead of Jonathan India, who is off to a rough start. Lane Thomas also gets the nod in left field over Isaac Collins, who is also struggling currently, and Carter Jensen and Salvador Perez change positions.

As for the Atlanta Braves, they are off to a great start despite missing a lot of their stars. They have mashed their way to two victories over the Royals. 4 home runs, make up 8 of their 12 runs on the season. Right hander Grant Holmes will start for them today.

Here is the lineup for the Braves against Seth Lugo.

Can the Royals avoid a sweep and not be winless going into their home opener? Can the offense do anything after putting up just two runs over the first two games of the season? Hopefully the answer to both of those questions is yes, but we won’t know until 12:35 p.m. CT to get our answer, as first pitch on Royals.TV will be then.

Braves vs Royals Game Thread: March 29th

Grant Holmes will be taking the mound to face off against Seth Lugo and the Kansas City Royals in an attempt to hold down the fort and end the series with a sweep.

Last night’s ending was a great comeback, and now with two wins under their belt, the Atlanta Braves are determined to end the series and the weekend off on a high note. Let’s see if today’s performances will “grant” them (see what I did there?) that achievement.

First pitch is set for 1:35 p.m. EDT.

3 reasons the Suns won’t win a playoff series

SAN ANTONIO, TX - MARCH 19: Victor Wembanyama #1 of the San Antonio Spurs blocks the shot of Oso Ighodaro #11 of the Phoenix Suns during the game on March 19, 2026 at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas. The Phoenix Suns are limping into the final parts of the season. Looking to finish as the seventh seed in the West, the team appears to have a hard first-round matchup if they stay in seventh heading into the playoffs.

Here are three reasons why Phoenix will be a first-round exit this year:

Lack of Playoff Experience and Star Power

It’s possible the Suns’ first-round opponent will be the San Antonio Spurs, who, like the Suns, have little playoff experience outside of Luke Kornet and Harrison Barnes.

The Spurs would be likely to take the cake in a series against Phoenix because, one: they employ an alien, Victor Wembanyama, who is likely to finish top-five in MVP voting and be an All-NBA First Team selection; but two: they boast more top-end talent. Both Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox made the All-Star team, Stephon Castle looks to be an All-NBA selection, and Keldon Johnson is the odds-on favorite to win Sixth Man of the Year.

Dillon Brooks, Mark Williams, and Jalen Green surrounding Devin Booker do not provide the same upside that the Spurs’ players do around Wembanyama, and the team has no experience playing in playoff situations as a group.

While both teams have had surprising seasons based on collective team efforts, when rotations shrink in April, the Spurs will have more players to rely on. If the Suns play the Thunder in the first round, the lack of experience and star power problems remain prevalent, but Oklahoma City has experience as a group.

Continuity Struggles

The Suns have been banged up. Williams and Brooks remain out due to foot and hand injuries, respectively. Grayson Allen and Jordan Goodwin have both recently dealt with lower-body injuries, and Jalen Green already missed more than half the season with his hamstring problems.

In order to pull off an upset, Phoenix will need to be possessing some of their best “vibes” as a team all year, and unfortunately, because of injuries, that’s not likely to happen. Brooks and Williams should return by the end of the season, but with fewer than 10 games left in the year, it’s not enough time for a team that’s had a lot of players go in and out of the lineup to build enough continuity to pull off a major upset.

We still don’t fully know what the Suns’ starting lineup is when everyone on the team is healthy. Does Royce O’Neale or Collin Gillespie move to the bench when Brooks returns?

Historical Precedent

For the sake of this article, let’s assume the Suns stay in seventh like they have nearly all year and beat their first-round opponent in the play-in.

Since the playoff field expanded in 1984, only seven 7th seeds have made it past the first round. While it’s happened twice in the last three seasons, both were under extenuating circumstances. When the Lakers beat the Grizzlies in 2023, Los Angeles had the two best players in the series, and Memphis and their best player was out of rhythm after being suspended.

Last season, when the Warriors beat the Rockets, Golden State made a blockbuster trade for Jimmy Butler midway through the year, and was playing nothing like a 7th seed. With Steph Curry playing at an All-NBA level, Golden State was always going to have the best player in the series against a young Houston team.

If recent history shows how to pull off the upset, you need to have at least the best player in the series. Devin Booker is having a strong year—he made his fifth All-Star appearance—but whether the Suns play the Thunder or the Spurs, the odds will be stacked against them.

If they do end up in 8th, their historical odds of winning in the first round are even lower.

Do you agree? Why or why not?

Colorado Rockies game no. 3 thread: Jose Quintana vs Max Meyer

SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA - FEBRUARY 13: Jose Quintana #62 of the Colorado Rockies looks on during a spring training bullpen at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick on February 13, 2026 in Scottsdale, Arizona. (Photo by Kyle Cooper/Colorado Rockies/Getty Images)

While practicing patience is still encouraged, the Colorado Rockies’ 2026 season is off to a familiar start. The Rockies are in Miami looking to avoid being swept by the Marlins on Opening Weekend after losing by just one run in both of their first two games. Yesterday afternoon had some fireworks as rookie TJ Rumfield and shortstop Ezequiel Tovar both struck their first home runs of the season, but the Rockies struck out eight times in seven innings against Marlins starter Eury Pérez as they fell short.

Left-handed veteran Jose Quintana will make his first regular season start for the Rockies—suiting up in his ninth uniform—after joining the team on a one-year, $6 million deal this off-season. Quintana posted a 9.72 ERA over three starts and 8 1/3 innings during spring training with eight strikeouts and six walks. He also made a scoreless, three inning start with a strikeout as the captain of Team Colombia during the World Baseball Classic.

Quintana has made five career starts against the Marlins with a 2.61 ERA over 31 innings. His primary pitch heading into this season is a low velocity sinker backed up by a changeup, a curveball, a four-seam fastball, and a slurve.

Making the start for the Marlins is the right-handed Max Meyer. The 27-year-old missed the majority of the 2025 season with a left hip impingement, posting a 4.73 ERA with 68 strikeouts over 12 starts before landing on the season-ending injured list in June. Meyer excelled in spring training this year, not giving up a single run in three Grapefruit League outings—including two starts—with 12 strikeouts and only one walk.

Meyer uses a high-80s slider with heavy vertical drop as his primary pitch, while his four-seam fastball sits comfortably in the mid 90s. He also throws a sinker, a changeup, and a sweeper. In two career starts and ten innings against the Rockies he has a 7.20 ERA and has given up three home runs.

The first iteration of Sunday Night Baseball for the 2026 season goes down tonight between the Cleveland Guardians and Seattle Mariners at 7:20 p.m. ET on Peacock.

Can star slugger Jose Ramirez and red-hot rookie Chase DeLauter take advantage of an advantageous pitching matchup? How about Slade Cecconi’s strikeout prop against a whiff-heavy Mariners squad?

I answer those questions with my Guardians vs. Mariners predictions and MLB picks for SNB on March 29.

Guardians vs Mariners props for March 29

Dodgers Jose Ramirez Over 1.5 total bases+100
Dodgers Slade Cecconi Over 4.5 strikeouts-112
Dodgers Chase DeLauter home run+450

Guardians vs Mariners player prop picks

Jose Ramirez Over 1.5 total bases (+100)

Emerson Hancock gets the nod for the Seattle Mariners, and that’s more about the injuries around him than it is his personal brilliance.

The tall righty has managed poor results with a 5.49 xERA and 5.23 FIP across 162 2/3 innings despite playing in the pitcher’s haven that is T-Mobile Park.

The former Georgia Bulldog pitches to contact with a lowly 16.6% K rate, and those balls-in-play have a high likelihood of falling for hits given his second-percentile xBA (.291).

Jose Ramirez demolished right-handed pitching a year ago (143 wRC+) and has strong numbers against four-seamers, sinkers, and changeups — Hancock’s hittable three-pitch arsenal against left-handed bats.

Slade Cecconi Over 4.5 strikeouts (-112)

The Seattle Mariners have some worrisome contact data at the plate through three games, leading to an increased expectation for Cleveland Guardians starter Slade Cecconi’s strikeout numbers.

They have the worst zone-contact percentage (74.6%) in the league, which has led to a 32.1% K rate. Tanner Bibee, Gavin Williams, and Joey Cantillo all managed to find swings and misses against this lineup, and now it’s Cecconi’s turn.

The 26-year-old was sharp in the spring, tossing a 1.62 ERA across 16 2/3 frames. He’s riding a nine-inning scoreless streak and has found success adding a sweeper and tightening his cutter. The new arsenal should pay immediate dividends before hitters can adjust.

Chase DeLauter home run (+450)

Do you know who leads Major League Baseball in home runs entering Sunday?

It’s Cleveland rookie Chase DeLauter with four, who has homered in each of his first three regular-season games — including last night’s game-winning dinger in the 10th inning.

The ballyhood prospect has lived up to the hype and more, and a case can be made that he’s the league’s hottest hitter given his  .357/.357/.1.214 slash line.

There’s been a lot of swing-and-miss in his game (35.7%), but Hancock’s unimpressive strikeout abilities diminish that concern. If DeLauter makes contact, look out.

Chicago Blackhawks Call Up First-Round Pick

The Chicago Blackhawks have made a roster move, as they have announced that they have recalled defenseman Kevin Korchinski from their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs.

Korchinski has appeared in four games this season with the Blackhawks, where he has recorded one assist, three blocks, and a minus-1 rating. In 53 games this season with the IceHogs, he has posted two goals, 24 assists, and 26 points.

Korchinski landing another call-up with the Blackhawks is certainly notable, as he is one of Chicago's brightest young players. Now, the 2022 seventh-overall pick will be looking to impress after getting this latest chance on the Blackhawks' roster.

In 96 career games over three NHL seasons with the Blackhawks, Korchinski has recorded six goals, 12 assists, 18 points, and 30 penalty minutes.
