Texas’ Madison Booker is AP women’s basketball player of the week

The sophomore wing had her fifth double-double of the season with 20 points and 11 rebounds in a win over then-No. 2 South Carolina that ended the Gamecocks' 57-game regular season conference winning streak. Booker also had 20 points, six rebounds and four blocks in a win over Vanderbilt. The senior guard averaged 29 points per game in wins over then-No. 10 Duke and No. 22 Florida State.

Brendan Rodgers wants Bayern Munich to experience “hurt” at Celtic Park after taking pride in his team’s European improvement this season.

Bayern’s visit to Glasgow marks the first time since 2013 that Celtic will play knockout Champions League football, with Rodgers contemplating his most significant scalp yet. Celtic are the heavy underdogs to see off the German giants over two legs but Rodgers has challenged his players to keep the tie competitive before they head to the Allianz Arena next week. Slovan Bratislava, RB Leipzig and Young Boys have already been defeated at Celtic Park this season, with the hosts unbeaten in their last half-dozen home European games.

US Open to offer $1m prize and earlier start for mixed doubles to lure singles stars

  • Event will start before singles tournament in 2025
  • Similar exhibition event worked well last year

The US Open is moving its mixed doubles tournament to the week before singles play begins, hoping a revamped format and $1m prize will persuade top players to chase a grand slam title.

This year’s event will feature 16 teams competing over two days in shorter matches. Tournament organizers believe that can attract the sport’s biggest stars, many of whom have passed on doubles to keep themselves fresh for singles.
