Castleford Tigers full-back Fletcher Rooney has been ruled out for about four months with a thigh injury.
The 19-year-old suffered a high-grade quadriceps injury in training.
Rooney has featured in all four of the Tigers' Super League games so far this season, scoring two tries.
"It's really tough to see Fletch sidelined with such an unlucky injury," head of medical services Nick Raynor told the club website.

Duke remained atop The Associated Press Top 25 men’s college basketball poll on Monday a day after the committee that selects the 68-team field for the NCAA Tournament went with Auburn as the No. 1 overall seed.
The West region includes a curious Kansas vs. Arkansas matchup.
The Mavericks—their fans, players, and front office—are still dealing with the fallout and emotional aftereffects of the stunning Luka Doncic trade. Not everyone is processing this in the same way, and many people — particularly fans — are not ready to move on.
Dallas Mavericks talisman Dirk Nowitzki spoke to that on the German 41 Campus podcast (hat tip to Hoopshype for the translation). Nowtizki talked about going to the first Lakers game Doncic played.
"It was such a strange situation. I was standing in that empty stadium, and then he ran onto the court—in yellow. It was just an unbelievably bizarre moment for me. And of course, it's going to take weeks and months before it starts to feel a little more normal. It's a tough situation, but in my tweet, I made it clear—I will always be a Mavs fan. But this trade really hurt. And it will take a while before everyone processes it and moves on."
Nowitzki also talked about the shock of learning about the trade while on vacation with his family.
"At the end of the trip, we were in the Maldives, just relaxing at the beach. It was literally the last day, and I was in my room, about to pack my things. Then suddenly, my phone exploded with calls and messages from all over the world. I immediately went on Twitter, read the news, and at first, I was just shocked—like everyone else. I don't think anyone saw it coming that the Mavs would ever trade Luka. So for me, it was totally unexpected, completely out of nowhere."
That shock and pain still impacts Mavericks fans, who have lashed out at general manager Nico Harrison and team governor Patrick Dumont.
The players have no choice but to move on — they still have to take the court and play games (on a team ravaged by injuries). Which is why P.J. Washington said the "fire Nico" chants need to end, speaking to Mike Curtis of the Dallas Morning News.
"All that 'Fire Nico' stuff, we're sick and tired of hearing it. We just want to go out there and play and we need the fans to support us no matter who's on the floor. That's just how I feel about it."
It's understandable Washington feels that way. The fans aren't there yet. Part of that is that since the trade Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis (nearing a return) and so many other players have been injured that the team is struggling to fill the required eight roster spots each night. Winning would have eased some of the pain fans felt, but with injuries piling up the team has lost 8-of-9 and is in danger of sliding out of even the play-in.
It's going to take a while for fans to embrace the Mavericks the same way again. Everyone is going to process this at their own pace, and that might be slower than Washington or Mavericks management wants.
Tomáš Klouček, a former pro hockey defenseman who played 141 NHL games, died from injuries sustained in a skiing accident on Sunday in his native Czechia at age 45, according to multiple Czech media reports.
The news was confirmed in an Instagram post by his wife, according to Hokej.cz.
“We were hit by sad news – Tomáš Klouček died following a tragic accident,” Oceláři Třinec, one of his former teams, tweeted on X. “The tough defenseman played a total of 90 games for us. We wish his family and loved ones a lot of strength. Our sincere condolences.”
According to reports, Klouček skied into a power pole on the edge of the slope and was pronounced dead on the scene. The incident occurred in Špindlerův Mlýn, a popular ski resort in the north of the country near the border with Poland.
Klouček was born in Prague and grew up playing for local club Slavia. He was drafted in 1998 in the fifth round, 151st overall, by the New York Rangers, then went overseas to play for the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in the QMJHL.
Between 2000 and 2006, Klouček played 141 NHL games for the Rangers, Nashville Predators and Atlanta Thrashers, scoring two goals and adding eight assists for 10 points with 250 penalty minutes. He spent the rest of the time playing for those teams AHL affiliates in Hartford, Milwaukee and Chicago.
A large, physical defenseman, Klouček was 6’4” and weighed 245 lbs.
From 2007 until his retirement in 2017, Klouček played in Czechia, in the KHL and in Slovakia, finishing with his last two seasons for Epinal in France.

Governor Patrick Morrisey called the decision a 'miscarriage of justice.'
The first pitch of the 2024 Major League Baseball season is Tuesday morning at 6:10AM Eastern as the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Chicago Cubs open the season in Japan.
The Dodgers are overwhelming favorite to win a second consecutive World Series title this fall (+240) while the Cubs sit further down the board (+3000).
The offseason for LA included signing the top pitcher in Japan, Roki Sasaki, 2-time CY Young winner Blake Snell, and relievers Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates. They have reloaded to say the least.
The Cubs were aggressive in the offseason as well highlighted by their acquisition of outfielder Kyle Tucker and closer Ryan Pressley from Houston.
Tuesday, Yoshinobu Yamamoto is slated to take the mound for Los Angeles against Shota Imanaga for Chicago.
Imanaga was 15-3 with a 2.91 ERA with 174 strikeouts in 29 starts last season for the Cubs.
Yamamoto was 7-2 with a 3.00 ERA including 105 strikeouts in 18 starts for the Dodgers

NHL players moved at the trade deadline have now had more than a week to get accustomed to their new squads. Some players already dealt with switching teams not long ago, while other veterans underwent the big shift for the first time.
Edmonton Oilers defenseman Jake Walman, Dallas Stars right winger Mikko Rantanen and Colorado Avalanche center Brock Nelson are three examples. Each player’s had a different storyline that caught the hockey world’s attention.
Walman, 29, was traded to the San Jose Sharks in June 2024 with a second-round draft pick from the Detroit Red Wings for future considerations. He recorded a career-high 32 points and provided offensive upside with smart defensive play with the Sharks, which received a 2026 first-rounder to trade him to Edmonton less than a year later. Walman’s endeared himself to his new teammates in five games.
"Nice addition for our team. Adds a lot of speed," Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch said on Sunday. "He's a great guy to get the puck and get it out of pressure. His mobility is as good as anyone for a defenseman."
Nelson, 33, spent more than a decade with the New York Islanders but was the subject of trade rumors for most of the season as the team struggled. He now has to adjust to a new team in a new conference during an intense playoff push.
It’s also closing in on a decade since the Avalanche drafted Rantanen. But the 28-year-old was shocked when Colorado traded the pending UFA to the Carolina Hurricanes in January. Without a contract extension, Rantanen went on the move again at the trade deadline to Dallas. He joined a contender that already has Jason Robertson, Matt Duchene, Wyatt Johnston and one of the best netminders in the NHL, Jake Oettinger, who is one of three goalies with 30 wins this season.
