Chase Elliott ends 42-race winless streak with overtime victory in NASCAR Cup race at Texas

Chase Elliott had to get through a few extra laps after 18 months since last winning a race. Elliott pulled ahead and cleared Ross Chastain on the first lap after the second restart in overtime Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway, ending a 42-race winless streak for NASCAR’s most popular driver. The race ended on the 16th caution after Elliott had taken the white flag for the 276th lap in a race scheduled for 267 laps.

Aprilia’s Maverick Viñales completed the perfect weekend at the Grand Prix of the Americas when the pole sitter and sprint winner claimed victory in Sunday’s race despite dropping outside the top 10 on the opening lap after a poor start.

Viñales became the first rider to win a Sunday race with three different manufacturers – having won with Suzuki and Yamaha in the past – taking the chequered flag in an eventful race that had several lead changes.

U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson said on Sunday he would try to pass aid to Israel this week after Iran's mass drone and missile attack, but he did not say whether the legislation would also include assistance for Ukraine and other allies. Johnson, who is struggling to unify his fractious Republican majority and avoid an ouster threat, recounted two failed attempts to pass standalone aid for Israel. Johnson spoke after House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, the chamber's No.2 Republican, said the House will respond to Iran's attack with "legislation that supports our ally Israel and holds Iran and its terrorist proxies accountable," without offering specifics.

Arkansas loses rubber match, series in 5-0 shutout to Alabama

The No. 1 Arkansas Razorbacks (30-5, 12-3 SEC) suffered their first series loss of the season after getting shutout Saturday with a 5-0 loss to the No. 25 Alabama Crimson Tide (24-12, 6-9 SEC) at Sewell-Thomas Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Alabama first took the lead in the third thanks to three singles before it scored two runs in each of the seventh and eighth innings to put the final dagger in the Razorbacks. Crimson Tide lefty Zane Adams was dominant, as he tossed eight innings of shutout ball with five strikeouts, one walk and only four hits.
