Jaden Akins scored 14 points and No. 16 Michigan State extended its winning streak to nine games with a 78-68 win over Northwestern on Sunday. The Spartans (14-2, 5-0 Big Ten) closed the first half on a 33-12 run and led 47-28 at intermission after all 10 players chipped in at least a field goal. Jase Richardson scored 13 points and Jeremy Fears Jr. had 12 points and eight assists for the Spartans, whose six dunks in the first half drew plenty of roars from visiting fans who seemed to make up half of the sellout crowd.

TJ Weeks Jr. had 18 points to help Rider hold off Niagara 68-65 on Sunday, ending a nine-game losing streak for the Broncs. Weeks shot 6 for 10, including 4 for 7 from beyond the arc for the Broncs (5-11, 1-4 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference). Jay Alvarez shot 3 for 8 (2 for 4 from 3-point range) and 5 of 5 from the free-throw line to add 13 points.

Loyer hit 5 of 6 3-point shots for the Boilermakers (13-4, 5-1 Big Ten) Purdue hit four of its first six shots from long distance and finished 19 for 33 from 3-point range. Trey Kaufman-Renn scored 13 of his 15 points in the first half and Myles Colvin added 14 points for Purdue. Braden Smith had a team-leading 14 assists.

Auburn standout Johni Broome will not require surgery on his sprained left ankle, the school said in a statement Sunday. Broome, the Tigers' leading scorer, suffered what coach Bruce Pearl called a “significant sprain” of his ankle in No. 2 Auburn’s 66-63 win over South Carolina on Saturday. Broome, a 6-foot-10, 240-pound fifth-year senior and preseason Associated Press All-American who is considered a contender for national player of the year, had an MRI on Sunday.
