WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — Efton Reid III and Cameron Hildreth each converted a pair of free throws in the final 30 seconds to allow Wake Forest to hold off Boston College 72-66 in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener Saturday. Wake Forest (8-3) bounced back from a 57-44 loss to No. 22 Texas A&M in the ACC/SEC Challenge and is now 16-12 all-time in ACC regular-season matchups with the Eagles (6-4). The teams were tied at 55-55 after Parker Friedrichsen fouled Fred Payne in the backcourt with 9:04 left and the sophomore hit all three free throws.

Notre Dame's four-point halftime lead held up until a layup by Donnie Freeman gave Syracuse its first lead of the game, 34-33, with 16 1/2 minutes remaining. Shrewsberry then responded with two 3-pointers for the Fighting Irish.

Six-foot-11 Viktor Lakhin made just his fifth and sixth 3-pointers of the season in scoring all 12 of his points in the second half for Clemson, which shot 40%, making nine 3s.

Devin Royal scored 16 of his career-high 22 points in the second half, Bruce Thornton also had 22 points and Ohio State defeated Rutgers 80-66 on Saturday. Micah Parrish had 12 for the Buckeyes (6-3, 1-1 Big Ten Conference), who bounced back after a dismal league opener that saw them behind Maryland 50-14 at halftime before losing by 24. Dylan Harper led the Scarlet Knights (5-4, 0-1) with 18 points.

Zuby Ejiofor posted career highs scoring 28 points and grabbing 13 rebounds and St. John's used an offensive eruption after halftime to beat Kansas State 88-71 in a Big 12-Big East Battle contest on Saturday.
