Tonje and Crowl each score 17 and slow-starting Wisconsin blows past Appalachian State 87-56

John Tonje and Steven Crowl scored 17 points each, Wisconsin took command with a huge first-half run, and the Badgers defeated Appalachian State 87-56 on Sunday to complete a busy first week of the season. The Badgers (3-0) defeated Holy Cross on Monday and Montana State on Thursday before taking on Appalachian State (1-2) which was also playing its third game in seven days. Wisconsin fell behind 17-8 in the first eight minutes of this one before ripping off a 24-0 run for a 32-17 lead with a little under three minutes remaining in the half.

San Francisco defeats Boise State 84-73

Malik Thomas had 22 points in San Francisco's 84-73 win against Boise State on Saturday. Thomas shot 8 of 13 from the field, including 0 for 4 from 3-point range, and went 6 for 7 from the free-throw line for the Dons (2-0). Marcus Williams added 20 points while shooting 6 for 12 (4 for 5 from 3-point range) and 4 of 4 from the free-throw line and added five rebounds and six assists.

Kobe Sanders scores 20, Nevada uses late 10-0 run to beat Washington 63-53

Kobe Sanders scored 20 points, Nick Davidson added 14 and nine rebounds and Nevada pulled away Saturday night to beat Washington 63-53. Sanders threw down a dunk — just Nevada's second made field goal in 7 1/2 minutes — to ignite an 8-0 spurt that culminated when Brandon Love stole a pass near midcourt and went the other way for fast-break dunk and gave Nevada the lead for good at 50-44 with 5:59 to play. Tre Coleman scored 10 points for Nevada (2-0).

Gary’s 11 points, 9 rebounds and 5 steals help Nebraska beat Bethune-Cookman 63-58

Juwan Gary had 11 points, nine rebounds and five steals and Connor Essegian made 4 of 4 from the free-throw line in the final 38 seconds Saturday night and Nebraska held on to beat Bethune-Cookman 63-58. Brice Williams scored 10 points for Nebraska (2-0). David Onanina made back-to-back baskets in the paint to give Bethune-Cookman (0-2) a 12-6 lead with 14 minutes left in the first half but the Cornhusker scored 19 of the next 25 points to take a seven-point lead when Braxton Meah threw down a dunk with 2:39 to go.

Arkansas suffocated by Baylor zone defense

The Arkansas basketball team (1-1) was thwarted by a tough Baylor (1-1) zone defense in the Razorbacks' 72-67 loss Saturday at American Airlines Center in Dallas. For the second straight game, Arkansas missed its first nine three-point attempts before forward Adou Thiero — who led the Hogs with 24 points — cashed a shot from distance with 9:20 minutes to go in the first half. As a team, the Razorbacks shot 5-of-20 from beyond the arc (25.0%) and 24-of-58 from the field (41.4%) and turned the ball over 11 times against the Bears.

Finister’s 15 lead Sam Houston over Tarleton State 91-62

Dorian Finister had 15 points and 11 rebounds to power Sam Houston to a 91-62 victory over Tarleton State on Saturday night. Lamar Wilkerson also scored 15 on 5-for-10 shooting with three 3-pointers for the Bearkats (1-1). Kian Scroggins shot 4 of 6 from the field and 6 for 9 from the free-throw line to finish with 14 points.
