Micah Thomas scored 24 points to help Northwestern State defeat Southeast Louisiana 72-69 on Monday night. Thomas shot 7 of 12 from the field, including 5 for 8 from 3-point range, and went 5 for 5 from the free-throw line for the Demons (14-15, 10-8 Southland Conference). Love Bettis scored 18 points, going 6 of 10 and 6 of 6 from the free-throw line.

Roddy Gayle Jr. knocked down key free throws and Michigan basketball clipped Nebraska in a defensive slugfest Monday night to tie MSU atop Big Ten.

RJ Davis had 20 points, Seth Trimble came off the bench to score 17 and North Carolina cruised to a 96-85 victory over Florida State on Monday night. Davis made 5 of 9 shots with three 3-pointers and 7 of 8 free throws for the Tar Heels (18-11, 11-6 Atlantic Coast Conference), who have won four in a row to pull within a half-game of Wake Forest and SMU for fourth place. The top four teams receive byes into the third round of the conference tournament.

Abdi Bashir Jr. scored 30 points and made eight 3-pointers to lead Monmouth over Northeastern 78-73 on Monday night. Bashir had six rebounds for the Hawks (11-18, 9-7 Coastal Athletic Association). Cornelius Robinson Jr. scored 18 points while going 7 of 11 and 4 of 5 from the free-throw line and added eight rebounds.

Brice Williams was a do-it-yourselfer for Nebraska on Monday night, scoring 26 of the Cornhuskers' 46 points and 18 of their 21 in the first half against No. 15 Michigan. The Wolverines won 49-46, their fewest points in a victory since 2008 and the Huskers' fewest overall since 2019. Williams made three straight 3-pointers in the first four minutes and accounted for Nebraska's first 13 points.

Harlan Obioha had 23 points in UNC Wilmington's 79-70 win over William & Mary on Monday night. Obioha added 10 rebounds for the Seahawks (22-7, 12-4 Coastal Athletic Association). Khamari McGriff scored 14 points while finishing 6 of 8 from the floor and added six rebounds.

Smith was in his fourth season in charge of the program where he was 65-62.

Utah men's basketball coach Craig Smith was fired Monday with four games remaining in his fourth season at the school

The University of Utah fired men's basketball coach Craig Smith on Monday, a day after a 76-72 loss at Central Florida that dropped the Utes to 15-12 this season. Smith was in his fourth season in charge of the program. The 52-year-old Smith will be replaced by assistant coach Josh Eilert on an interim basis as the school searches for a replacement.

Daniel Johnson scored 15 points as Hampton beat Stony Brook 81-49 on Monday for its fifth straight victory. Johnson shot 5 of 10 from the field, including 2 for 5 from 3-point range, and went 3 for 3 from the line for the Pirates (16-13, 8-8 Coastal Athletic Association). Wayne Bristol Jr. added 12 points while going 5 of 11 (2 for 4 from 3-point range) while he also had 10 rebounds.

There are a handful of teams from mid-majors that could make life very stressful for programs from the power conferences come Selection Sunday, especially if they fail to win the automatic NCAA Tournament berth in their own league tourneys. New Mexico and Utah State are nearly locks from the Mountain West, but San Diego State, Boise State and Colorado State are likewise clinging to NCAA aspirations. The Aztecs can help their cause against New Mexico on Tuesday night, the Broncos face Utah State on Wednesday night and Colorado State plays Utah State and Boise State down the stretch.

Members of the IU Indianapolis men’s basketball team are unhurt and back home Monday, a day after their bus caught fire on Interstate 275. The school posted a message on X on Sunday that all team and staff members were safely evacuated from the bus, which experienced a mechanical issue on the Jaguars' trip home following a loss at Northern Kentucky. The team completed the trip home after being picked up by a second bus.

The Tigers earned all 60 votes from the national media panel after beating Arkansas and Georgia last week.
