Marc Márquez delivered a masterclass at the Balaton Park Circuit on Sunday to win the first Hungarian Grand Prix in 33 years. The Ducati rider secured his seventh straight sprint-race double and stretched his world championship lead to 175 points.

KTM’s Pedro Acosta and Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi joined Márquez on the podium as the defending world champion, Jorge Martín, came fourth – his best finish on the Aprilia since his return from injury.

Napoli launched their Serie A season in style with a 2-0 win at Sassuolo, as Scott McTominay powered in a first-half header before Kevin De Bruyne curled home a free-kick after the break.

The former Manchester United midfielder McTominay bulleted a header into the net from Matteo Politano’s curling cross after just 17 minutes to put Napoli ahead. De Bruyne, who moved to Italy after his Manchester City contract expired, doubled the advantage after 57 minutes, bending a free-kick from a tight angle over the crowded box and into the far bottom corner. McTominay told Dazn: “It’s an honour to have De Bruyne in the team. I’m the one who has to learn from him, not the other way around.”

Philipsen had also taken the yellow jersey at last month’s Tour before a serious crash, where he fractured his collarbone and needed surgery, ruled him out of the rest of the race two days later.

Iga Swiatek, the third seed, defeated Elena Rybakina 7-5, 6-3 on Sunday to reach her first Cincinnati Open final. The Pole had her hands full in the early stages of the 98-minute match but took advantage of a sudden dip in Rybakina’s form to win four consecutive games and wrap up the first set before easing through the second.

“That was a tough match,” Swiatek said. “At the beginning the level was pretty crazy. We played so fast that sometimes we couldn’t even run to the second ball. But I was there to play with intensity and good quality and I am super happy with the performance. I served much better, so for sure it helped and I wouldn’t change anything.”
