Draymond details ‘rock bottom' of Warriors career, strolls down hallway of mind

Draymond details ‘rock bottom' of Warriors career, strolls down hallway of mind originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

Draymond Green is a villain. A mentor. A bully. A charmer. He’s a basketball genius, a restless soul, a four-time NBA champion, a four-time NBA All-Star and a two-time Olympic gold medalist whose unruly conduct last season kept him off the court for 21 games.

His spasms of disorder did more than that. The vehement events of the 2023-24 NBA season hurt Draymond, his family and, lastly, the Golden State Warriors. It forced him to check himself. To seek rehabilitation for the emotions behind his on-court violence.

And now, 14 months after returning from his last suspension, words are coming off Draymond’s tongue with the same passion and conviction with which he has played basketball for 13 seasons with the Warriors. The conversation is about life, and he is the tour guide for a reflective journey down the long and sometimes dark hallways of his mind.

“The bottom? Man. Oh man. How do you find the bottom?” Green says on NBC Sports Bay Area’s “Dubs Talk” podcast, which debuted Friday. “There’s been some moments where … Wow. Wow.

“The bottom, I would have to say, for me personally, the bottom was last year. And the reason that was the bottom is basketball is one thing. You can talk about basketball all you want. I really don’t care. I know what I bring to the basketball game. I know what I’m capable of. I know what’s going on. So that don’t really bother me.

“But last year, my character was under attack. Who I am as a human being was under attack.”

The tipping point came on Dec. 12, 2023, when Green whacked Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkić in the face in the third quarter of a Warriors-Suns game in Phoenix. That led to a suspension deemed “indefinite” because one month earlier, Green jumped Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert – whose arms were around Golden State’s Klay Thompson – from behind and put him in a modified chokehold. The Green-Gobert incident was a five-gamer, so the NBA felt it necessary to increase the suspension for Green’s strike on Nurkić.

Public reaction was swift and heavy with presumptions, with opinions undoubtedly prejudiced by Draymond’s shocking punch to the face of then-teammate Jordan Poole in October 2022. NBA head of basketball operations Joe Dumars, a longtime friend of Green, delivered the indefinite suspension, explaining that he wanted to see Draymond get himself mentally and emotionally “right” before coming back to the game.

As Green attended to his business, speculation and allegations were rampant. He heard and saw it. His wife, Hazel Renee, coped with it. His children, his extended family and friends all were in the uncomfortable position of trying to answer for the man they knew and care for or even love.

“I take pride in who I am as a human being,” Green says. “I take pride in being a stand-up guy. If I see you and walk past you, I’m going to say, ‘Hi.’ I take pride in just being a great person. For my character to be under attack, that bothered me to my core because the things that were being said isn’t an accurate depiction of me and who I am.

“So, I would say that was the bottom. I couldn’t play the game that I love. I couldn’t play the game the way that I love. And by the way, ‘He’s beating his wife at home. He’s beating his kids because look what he does on a basketball court.’ That’s crazy … to have to live through that.”

“But then, for my family to also have to live through that,” he adds, “that was kind of rock bottom for me. Like my wife opening her Instagram and [seeing] ‘I’m so sorry’ [comments]. ‘I know you’re getting beaten at home.’ Beaten?

“I’m the guy that when my wife is on one, I walk into the other room. I don’t even want to go back and forth like that. It’s not even in my demeanor. I think it’s because people watch me on the basketball court and my intensity. I am probably as non-confrontational as you going to find. I’m going the opposite way.”

How does this not touch the heart of anyone who has one? How does this not force anyone to face their worst characteristics and try to seek peace within?

Green 35, says, he “hates” confrontation off the court. On the court, he lives for it. His willingness to engage in competition, usually with bigger players, is part of the equation that makes him great. At 6-foot-6, he’s the best small big man in the NBA and probably has considered having that description tattooed on his chest.

There is no question that this season has revealed a less combustible Draymond than the player he was the previous two seasons. He recorded a league- and career-high 21 technical fouls in 2022-23 and served a one-game suspension for planting his foot on the chest of Sacramento center Domantas Sabonis in the first round of the 2023 NBA playoffs against the Kings. Green this season has been assessed 12 technical fouls, but there have been no suspensions. The Warriors are 35-23 when he plays, 6-8 when he does not.

“With help, I worked my way out of it,” Green says. “And I’m back from it. But that was rock bottom for me.”

The noise related to Green’s antics has quieted because they are fewer. The Warriors are happier. And Draymond, among the leaders in the Defensive Player of the Year race, is performing better with his emotions on simmer than when they boil over.

Watch Josh Giddey hit halfcourt game-winner to cap 18-point Bulls comeback to beat Lakers

The Lakers had this one. They led 115-110 with 12.6 seconds left until a Patrick Williams 3-pointer had the Bulls down just two. Then Chicago stole the inbounds pass, Coby White drained another three, and Chicago led 116-115 with 6.1 remaining.

Austin Reaves drove the rim and hit a layup to put the Lakers back in front 117-116 with just 3.3 seconds to go, and the Bulls had no time outs. Then Josh Giddey did this.

Giddey felt good about the shot.

Coming a night after the Lakers won a game on a LeBron James tip-in at the buzzer, this loss was “devastation” for the Lakers, according to coach J.J. Redick. The Lakers dominated the third quarter and led by as many as 18 in the fourth quarter, but on the second night of a back-to-back seemed to lose steam late. Reaves led the Lakers with 30 points, while Luka Doncic had 25 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.

The Bulls also got hot late, shooting 11-of-14 on 3-pointers in the fourth. Giddey finished with a triple-double of 25 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists. Coby White scored 26 for Chicago.

The loss drops the Lakers into a tie with Memphis for the 4/5 seeds and a shot at home court in the first round of the West playoffs. The Lakers are 1.5 games behind Denver for third but also just 2.5 games ahead of the surging Clippers with nine games left to play.

Lakers crumble in stunner, losing to Bulls on Josh Giddey's half-court shot at buzzer

One night after he tipped in a winning shot to beat the Indiana Pacers, LeBron James sat at his locker and tried his best to say the Lakers needed to put what happened Thursday behind them.

The joy he felt in Indiana, walking off the court beating his chest in triumph and shooting his wristbands into the crowd, violently swung toward disappointment after the Lakers' 119-117 loss on Josh Giddey’s half-court buzzer-beater in Chicago.

“This is the NBA,” he said.

No way. Not this. This isn’t normal. A win like that followed by a loss like this? Never happens.

James’ postgame words were mostly unimportant, save for taking responsibility for a defensive miscommunication that led to a three and a disastrous inbounds pass he threw after that led to another. It was his actions that said the most.

He pieced together a stat sheet that had been torn right down the middle, studying how the Bulls had made 19 threes, including 11 of 14 in the fourth quarter when they scored 44 points. Then he took the two pieces of paper and shuffled them like a stack of playing cards, one on top of the other over and over again as he tried to explain how the Lakers squandered this chance.

“We put ourselves in position to win,” James repeated.

As he finished his interview, he balled the paper up and tossed it in the garbage.

While overreacting to any loss, particularly one that ends with a player swishing a shot from 47 feet, is risky, this one punctured the Lakers’ locker room because of the hope Wednesday’s win had given them.

After losing three in a row, including two with their roster intact, the win against the Pacers seemed like a moment when the team could get some of its swagger back, an attitude built over the season’s middle months before injuries to James, Rui Hachimura, Jaxson Hayes and others happened in the most compact portion of their schedule.

Worn down emotionally and worn out physically, the Lakers felt the win was like a double shot of espresso, the energy instantly flipping.

“Sometimes your group just needs a win," coach JJ Redick said before the loss to the Bulls.

“Devastation. It's a hell of a way to lose a basketball game,” Redick said after the game.

The 48 minutes of basketball in between showed the wild variance the Lakers have played with recently, the team struggling to contain Chicago in the first quarter before finding its footing in the second and third, pushing the game to the edges of a blowout.

The Lakers held the Bulls to 43 points in the middle quarters before giving up 44 in the fourth, blowing an 18-point lead.

And still they had chances to win. And it sure seemed like they would.

With the Bulls within one, Austin Reaves scored on a one-footed bank shot to put the Lakers up 113-110 with 26.5 seconds left. The Lakers forced Giddey into airballing a floater on the baseline, grabbed the rebound and Reaves hit a pair of free throws to give the Lakers a five-point lead with 12.6 seconds left.

But James left Patrick Williams on the Bulls’ sideline out-of-bounds play to chase the ball, and Nikola Vucevic quickly pushed it to the corner where Williams made a three. James then badly botched the inbounds pass, softly trying to guide the ball to Reaves and leaving it for Giddey to grab. The Bulls then swung it to Coby White, who hit his fourth three of the quarter to put the Bulls up one, Chicago scoring six points in 6.5 seconds.

“Horrible turnover by myself,” James said. “Bad miscommunication play before that.”

Giddey told reporters he almost was shocked at how simple it was to cause the turnover.

“He kinda just bounced it,” Giddey said of the inbound pass. “I was surprised at how easy I was able to grab it.”

Reaves said he was trying to seal his defender, Williams, more than he was moving to the ball, allowing Giddey to go from guarding the passer to getting the steal and the assist.

However, the Lakers perfectly executed a play for Reaves to score on a layup, retaking the lead with 3.3 seconds left.

The Bulls, though, got the ball to Giddey with a little bit of a running start, and while James tried to contest the shot, it never looked off, the 47-foot dagger swishing through the basket. According to Basketball Reference, it’s the ninth-longest buzzer-beater in NBA history.

“It sucks,” Reaves said, his 30 points and potential winner not enough.

Luka Doncic had 25 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. Hayes had 19 points and eight rebounds and James finished with 17 points, 12 assists and five rebounds.

Giddey had a triple-double with 25 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists as the Bulls (33-40) beat the Lakers for the second time in a week. White had 26 points and nine assists.

Instead of building momentum after the Pacers win, the Lakers (44-29) again seem headed for serious reflection. They play Saturday in Memphis, a possible first-round playoff matchup, before heading into the final two weeks of the season.

“At this point of the year, you just got to forget about it, honestly,” Reaves said. “There's so little basketball left.”

The NBA, like James said, demands you move on. But if this loss doesn’t leave a permanent scar on the Lakers, a bruise seems certain.

“You can't go into a game on Saturday thinking about what happened on Thursday,” James said.

But how do you forget this?

Watch Pacers put up franchise-record 162 points in rout of Wizards

It could have been worse. Up by 56, the Pacers started taking 24-second violations with more than a minute to go, which brought boos from some of the Pacers faithful.

Those fans already got to see history. The Pacers put up 162 points on the Wizards, setting an NBA franchise record for most points scored in a game. It is also the most points scored by any team this season.

Tyrese Haliburton led nine Pacers in double figures with 29 points. This is an NBA franchise record because the Pacers scored more in a game as part of the ABA, before they joined the NBA. The 162-109 victory was a great bounce-back win for the Pacers, who had a heartbreaking loss to the Lakers on a LeBron James tip-in the night before.

Rookie Alex Sarr led the Wizards with 22 points.

Knicks clinch playoff spot for third straight season after Hawks' loss to Heat

The Knicks are in.

After failing to clinch a playoff spot on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Clippers, the Miami Heat did New York a favor by defeating the Atlanta Hawks, 122-112, on Thursday night.

The Knicks are now guaranteed a top-six seed in the Eastern Conference, allowing them to avoid the play-in tournament.

Now, the next question is where the Knicks will be seeded. With 10 games to go, the Knicks (45-27) are the three-seed in the conference. The Cleveland Cavaliers (59-14) and the Boston Celtics (54-19) are too far ahead to catch, so the highest seed the Knicks can get is to remain at No. 3 but there are some interesting wrinkles forming for this team.

First, they are dealing with plenty of injuries especially at the point guard position. Jalen Brunson is still recovering from his ankle sprain, but he'll likely return before the end of the regular season. However, Miles McBride (groin) and Cam Payne (ankle) are also on the mend and will miss Friday's game against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Without many experienced true point guards, the Knicks will have to find ways to fend off the fourth-seeded Indiana Pacers (43-30). Just three games separate the two teams.

Another factor is the Knicks' strength of schedule, which is the seventh-toughest according to Tankathon.

If the Knicks hold on to the No. 3 seed, and the other teams remain in the same positions, they'll face the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round with a date with the Celtics in round two.

Falling to the four-seed will put the Knicks on a collision course with the upstart Detroit Pistons before taking on the Cavaliers in round two.

Bulls' Josh Giddey sinks half-court buzzer to stun Lakers in frantic finish

Bulls' Josh Giddey sinks half-court buzzer to stun Lakers in frantic finish originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia

Josh Giddey made a halfcourt heave at the buzzer to cap perhaps the wildest finish in the NBA this season, giving the Chicago Bulls a 119-117 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night.

Patrick Williams and Coby White hit back-to-back 3-pointers in the closing seconds for the Bulls, who trailed by five points with 12.6 seconds remaining.

Giddey finished with 25 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists. White scored 26 points and Kevin Huerter added 21 as the Bulls won for the ninth time in 11 games. And this one was easily their wildest in recent memory.

The Lakers looked like they had the game at hand leading 115-100 after Austin Reaves made two free throws with 13 seconds remaining. The Bulls weren’t finished, though.

Williams nailed a 3 for Chicago with 10 seconds remaining. Giddey stole a pass from James and White hit a 3 with 6 seconds to go, putting the Bulls on top 116-115.

Austin Reaves then drove for a layup to give Los Angeles a 117-116 lead with 3 seconds to go. But the Bulls still found a way to pull this one out, mobbing Giddey after he buried the winner.

Reaves led Los Angeles with 30 points. Luka Doncic had 25 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. Jaxson Hayes scored 19, and James finished with 17 points and 12 assists.

LaVine, Kings showcase valiant effort in needed win vs. Blazers

LaVine, Kings showcase valiant effort in needed win vs. Blazers originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

With 10 regular-season games remaining, on a four-game losing skid and an NBA playoff push beginning to fade, the Kings had to dig deep and respond.

They did just that.

With every starter scoring in double digits, Sacramento propelled to a 128-107 win over the visiting Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday night at Golden 1 Center.

Star guard Zach LaVine, who criticized the Kings’ locker room environment after Monday’s loss to the Boston Celtics, erupted for a game-high 29 points on 13-of-18 shooting from the floor.

Unlike throughout the losing streak, Sacramento showcased a valiant effort on both ends of the floor and an urgency to win. As the most vital part of the regular season approaches, the expectation to fight is a non-negotiable for the Kings.

“To that effort part, I think it’s a do-or-die situation,” LaVine told reporters. “If we’re not going to play with that effort, it might not fall our way.”

As a team, the Kings shot nearly 65 percent from the floor while dominating points in the paint 60-32 over a young, versatile Blazers team. Center Domantas Sabonis recorded his 53rd double-double of the 2024-25 NBA season.

Defensively, Sacramento outrebounded Portland 46-32. Guard Keon Ellis recorded a career-high six steals in 31 minutes of play.

When the Kings play with the tenacity like they showcased Thursday, naturally, the chances of losing are slimmer.

“So, at least playing that hard we are giving ourselves our best shot to go out there and compete at the highest level and give us a chance to play our best,” LaVine added.

“I think you attribute that to just wanting it more. These last 10 or nine, we’re going to have to play the same way.”

At 36-37, Sacramento stands No. 9 in the Western Conference, sitting half a game ahead of the Dallas Mavericks and one ahead of the No. 11 seed Phoenix Suns.

Although nine games separate the Kings from a possible postseason appearance, the immediate task at hand will be a challenge in and of itself for coach Doug Christie and Co.: Keep the foot on the effort pedal throughout the upcoming six-game road trip.

It’s Sacramento’s pathway to playoff basketball.

Jazz guard Jordan Clarkson out for season after undergoing procedure to address plantar fasciitis

Veteran guard Jordan Clarkson, who has been in and out of the Utah lineup and played in just 37 games, is now out for the remainder of the season after undergoing "a medical procedure to address plantar fasciitis in his left foot," the team announced Thursday.

When he did play, the 32-year-old showed he can still get a bucket averaging 16.2 points a game, shooting 36.2% from 3, plus adding 3.7 assists and 3.2 rebounds a night. However, the combination of some nagging injuries and the Jazz looking toward the lottery saw Crawford getting limited run.

Utah was already leaning into young guards Isaiah Collier, Keyonte George and Johnny Juzang, trying to get them run and the chance to develop. Crawford's injury will just increase that.

Crawford has one more season on his contract at $14.3 million. Expect his name to come up in trade talk this offseason (as it did at the trade deadline), as a number of teams could use both the scoring punch and the expiring contract the former Sixth Man of the Year can bring.

Lakers sign Jordan Goodwin, waive Cam Reddish

The Lakers have signed guard Jordan Goodwin, who has been on a two-way contract since Feb. 7, for the rest of the season Thursday with a team option for next season.

To make room on the roster, the Lakers waived forward Cam Reddish.

Goodwin, 26, recently cemented himself in the Lakers' rotation. He used up all of his allotted days with the Lakers under the two-way deal as of Wednesday's win over Indiana.

The 6-foot-5 guard has averaged 6.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.2 steals in 20.5 minutes a game. In his 19 appearances with the Lakers, he shot 47% from the field, 41.3% from three-point range and 81.8% from the foul line.

Undrafted coming out of college in 2021, Goodwin in four NBA seasons has averaged 6.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 18.3 minutes a game with Memphis, Phoenix, Washington and the Lakers.

Reddish played in 33 games this season with the Lakers, averaging 3.2 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 17.9 minutes.

Warriors' Gary Payton II out indefinitely with torn ligament in left thumb

Gary Payton II has become a solid part of the Warriors' rotation since Jimmy Butler arrived in the Bay Area. In his last 10 games, Payton has averaged 20.8 minutes a game off the bench, adding 11.1 points a game and shooting 50% on the 2.6 3-point attempts he takes a game, plus he is a quality perimeter defender Steve Kerr leans on in certain matchups.

Now the team will be without Payton indefinitely due to a torn ligament in his left thumb, a story broken by Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Payton had already been playing through an injury, wearing a mask since suffering a non-displaced nose fracture against the Hornets on March 3. The thumb injury is not something he can simply play through. Expect Steve Kerr and the Warriors to lean into Gui Santos and Pat Spencer for the team's remaining 10 regular-season games, or at least until Payton can return.

This is a rough time for Golden State to lose a key rotation player as it needs wins. The Warriors and Clippers are currently tied for the No. 6 seed in the West and avoiding the play-in, with the Timberwolves half-a-game back of both (Minnesota is one game back in the loss column). Whichever teams finish 7-8 will face each other in the first round of the play-in, and the loser of that game will need to beat the winner of the 9-10 game to advance as the No. 8 seed and face Oklahoma City in the first round.

NBA and FIBA to take next steps for a new European league, sides announce

NBA and FIBA to take next steps for a new European league, sides announce originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia

The NBA may soon be significantly expanding its presence in European basketball, in the form of partnering with FIBA on a new league that the sides have been talking about for many years.

Specifics are few, with the initial target — for now — being that it would be a 16-team league. But the announcement made Thursday by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and FIBA secretary general Andreas Zagklis is a major step forward after a long process of the sides going back and forth with ideas about what might work.

The league would likely use FIBA rules, such as a 40-minute game instead of the NBA’s 48-minute model, Silver said. But much of the other details — who, when, where — will be determined in the months ahead.

“We feel now is the time to move to that next stage,” Silver said, noting that NBA owners offered “enthusiastic support” for such a move.

The NBA and FIBA, the sport’s global governing body, were in discussions for some time about adding either an annual competition in Europe or having an NBA-operated league there. It was a topic at a Board of Governors meeting this past September, one where Zagklis took part.

Zagklis was back for this meeting, and clearly things were trending this way since at least last summer if not even longer.

“Coming out of the most successful World Cup and Olympics ever, we also believe it is the right time to take the next step for club basketball,” Zagklis said.

In January, speaking at the NBA Paris Games — when the league took advantage of the trip to France to meet with European stakeholders on the topic of the future of basketball on that continent — Silver said he believes the NBA remains “on track” in the process of expanding its footprint in Europe. That was also when he said the league’s governors would be briefed further at the March meeting.

“The response we’ve gotten from the marketplace is very positive,” Silver said.

Zagklis said FIBA’s leadership also unanimously agrees that it’s the right time to partner with the NBA on a new league.

“Our role as a federation is to unite the basketball ecosystem,” Zagklis said.

NBA owners to discuss launching new league in Europe as early as 2026, would challenge EuroLeague

"While Europe continues to develop some of the best players in the world, many of our most recent MVPs, of course, are European, we think that the commercial opportunity has not kept pace with the growth of the game," NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said in January of a potential NBA-affiliated league in Europe. "What we do at the NBA is we run leagues. We, of course, run the WNBA; we have the league in Africa I mentioned; we have the G League; and we have a 2K video league, so we operate five different leagues, and we think it's an expertise we have.

"So we are looking very closely to see if there's an opportunity to professionalize the game to another level here, to create a larger commercial opportunity."

Thursday, the NBA board of Governors will hear more about those plans in detail, according to multiple reports. Silver is not seeking a formal vote from the owners but is seeking guidance to move forward with the discussions. Nothing is yet official, but the plan is picking up steam.

The plans for the new league include:

• There could be between eight and 16 teams, some existing and some new. It could launch as early as 2026, although it likely is later than that.

• This league would be a direct challenge to the existing EuroLeague structure. According to The Athletic, there is potential interest from four existing EuroLeague teams: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Fenerbahce (from Istanbul), and ASVEL (the team from Lyon, France, where Tony Parker is president).

• The league would have new "permanent" teams, and potentially, there would be a chance for some clubs to play their way into the league in a sort of promotion system (not unlike the current EuroLeague model).

• New teams would be a 50/50 owned proposition with the league and new investors, including sovereign wealth funds (which are limited in how much they can invest in an NBA team).

• The buy-in for those teams would be around $500 million.

• This is a partnership between the NBA and FIBA, the latter of which has been trying to break the EuroLeague's current grip on the top teams.

• The goal is to ultimately have teams in major cities around the globe, often tied to major European soccer clubs. Markets mentioned include London, Manchester, Berlin and Munich. For example, Qatar Sports Investments could own a new team in Paris, tied to its soccer powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain, the Athletic reports.

The goal behind all this is money — both expanding the NBA brand and bringing in new revenue to the league. While the domestic market is still the primary revenue driver for the NBA, especially with the new television deal kicking in, the biggest growth opportunities for the league are international.

While they will have questions, it's difficult to imagine NBA owners telling Silver anything other than to go forward with this effort — there are no real downsides for them at this point.

Expert picks & predictions for Thursday’s Lakers vs. Bulls game

NBC Sports Bet Best Bet

Vaughn Dalzell (@VmoneySports) leans the Bulls to cover:

"The Lakers are coming off a buzzer-beating win over the Pacers thanks to a LeBron James tip, so this is a letdown spot as they travel to Chicago the following day. The Bulls aren't a juggernaut or a team to watch out for, but they've been playing better over the last 10 games with an 8-2 record, and with their tempo and age, they can outrun opponents who fall into their pace. That was shown against the Lakers in the last meeting (146-115 win for Chicago). The Lakers will likely be one of the heaviest public bets today, so I do like the Bulls for that reason too. It's Chicago or pass, but I'd rather live bet this game."

Expert picks & predictions for Thursday’s Hawks vs. Heat game

NBC Sports Bet Best Bet

Vaughn Dalzell (@VmoneySports) leans the Hawks to cover and win against the Heat:

"Miami is coming off that emotional and motivated win against Jimmy Butler and the Warriors, which now sets them up for a letdown spot against an Atlanta team that is playing well and sporting a 3-1 record over the past four. The Hawks are in a bounce-back spot after losing to Houston on the road and have had MImai's number with two wins out of three meetings. It's Atlanta or pass for me."

Pacers vs. Wizards Predictions: Odds, expert picks, recent stats, trends and best bets for March 27

It’s Thursday, March 27, and the Indiana Pacers (42-30) and Washington Wizards (16-56) are all set to square off from Capital One Arena in Washington.

Indiana lost 120-119 on a buzzer-beater by LeBron James last night, but this is a good spot to get a bounce-back win after that loss snapped a five-game losing streak. Washington is 1-5 in the past six games and coming off a 119-114 win over the 76ers last night.

Expert picks & predictions for Thursday’s Pacers vs. Wizards game

NBC Sports Bet Best Bet Vaughn Dalzell (@VmoneySports) leans the Pacers on the spread and Tyrese Haliburton to double-double once again:

"Tyrese Haliburton and the Pacers earned the push last night, but the loss to the Lakers snapped a five-game winning streak, while the Wizards earned a win in Philly over the 76ers to snap a five-game losing streak. I'd imagine the Pacers have the motivation edge and the Wizards would like to avoid winning two straight games in favor of tanking. It's Pacers or pass and once again, Tyrese Haliburton to double-double is a good play considering he has now done so in 12 consecutive games."
