The 25 Best NBA Free Agents and Where They’ll Sign

It’s where NBA players go to get paid, and where both the lives of individuals and the future of a franchise can change in an instant. With the salary cap continuing to rise because of the influx of money into the NBA via their television deal with ESPN, more and more players are opting out of preexisting contracts to become a free agent. Since June 2015, forward Ersan Ilyasova has been with six different NBA teams, and they’ve traded him five times.

BDL’s 2016-17 NBA Playoff Previews: Boston Celtics vs. Washington Wizards

John Wall and Marcus Smart played big roles in Celtics vs. Wizards becoming one of the NBA’s spiciest new rivalries. On the eve of the postseason, Celtics All-Star point guard Isaiah Thomas — Boston’s offensive engine and heartbeat — suffered the devastating loss of his younger sister, Chyna. After some deliberation, Thomas elected to play in Game 1 of the Celtics’ first-round matchup with the Chicago Bulls, just one day after learning of his 22-year-old sister’s death.

Clippers, Jazz prepare for Game 7 in L.A

Los Angeles Clippers guard Chris Paul was adamant the sun would not set on Paul Pierce’s NBA run in Salt Lake City on Friday night. “I looked over at ‘Truth’ during one of (those) timeouts and I said ‘You’re not ending your career in Utah,’ ” said Paul, referring to Pierce’s popular nickname. With a crucial 98-93 victory over the Utah Jazz in Game 6, the Clippers will attempt to extend the career of the 39-year-old Pierce, who is retiring at season’s end, and capture the series Sunday in Game 7 at Staples Center.

Hawks focus on re-signing Millsap following first-round exit

Paul Millsap confirmed on Saturday he ”probably will opt out” of his contract and become an unrestricted free agent, leaving the Atlanta Hawks to plot their future following a painful first-round exit from the playoffs. The Hawks’ win totals have slipped two straight years. The team could enter free-fall mode if unable to re-sign Millsap.

Dwyane Wade would like clarity on Bulls’ direction before making decision

If there’s one thing that’s been in short order for the Bulls over the last year or so, clarity would be first on the list. The Bulls’ front office signed players like Wade and Rajon Rondo last summer for the “now”, and then traded dependable veteran Taj Gibson for the “future”, along with management’s repeated flirtations with the prospect of trading Jimmy Butler for the last two years. The only thing consistent about the Bulls’ front office strategy has been the inconsistency and their desire to have flexibility in the future. For the now, they’ve positioned themselves to have flexibility to go in one direction or the other, to be contenders or hit the button on a rebuild that could take years to recover from.

Curry, Warriors not the least bit worried about losing their edge on seven-day break

OAKLAND — By the time the Warriors finally take the court in the playoffs again Tuesday night, it will be more than a week since they staged the most scintillating quarter of basketball of their season, and arguably one of the best in franchise history.  The NBA world is still buzzing about that 14-0 start, that 35-9 breakout, that pulsating 45-point first period in the Game 4 sweep-out of the Portland Trail Blazers in the opening round. Reflecting on it Saturday, Stephen Curry was still sounding amazed by the synergy of those 12 minutes. “It all started with our defense,” Curry said. “There’s a certain vibe you can create when you get stops and everybody’s locked in like that.” Players and coaches

NBA-‘Stifle Tower’ Gobert important to Utah hopes in Game Seven

Utah center Rudy Gobert has hobbled his way in and out of the Utah Jazz first-round playoff series and his shaky health could leave the team vulnerable in the Game Seven decider against the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday. Gobert is a master of obstruction when he stands in the lane with arms outstretched, blocking shots and sight lines. Gobert twisted his left ankle after gathering a rebound in the third quarter of Utah’s Game Six loss to the Clippers on Friday, the second time in the series he has been floored by injury.

BDL’s 2016-17 NBA Playoff Previews: San Antonio Spurs vs. Houston Rockets

• San Antonio: It wasn’t pretty, and had First Team All-Defensive wing Tony Allen been available for the Memphis Grizzlies, it might’ve been uglier, but the Spurs survived the Grindhouse to escape their first-round series in six games, thanks in large part to Kawhi Leonard transforming into peak Kobe Bryant. Leonard thrice broke his own playoff scoring high, averaging 31.2 points on an otherworldly 71.5 percent true shooting for the series, to go along with six rebounds, 3.8 assists and a pair of steals per game. Gregg Popovich might be biased, but he called Leonard “the best player in the league right now” after the series, and the Spurs coach doesn’t throw out such superlatives lightly.

25 Most Heroic Losses in NBA Playoff History

Led by Wall and Beal, Wizards moving on to face Celtics

John Wall refused to give in. On a night when Wall set a career playoff-high with 42 points, his remarkable defensive play was a big reason the Washington Wizards moved on to the second round of the playoffs with a 115-99 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Friday night. “That’s a sign of a champion,” Washington coach Scott Brooks said.
