Gordon Hayward discusses reasons for move to Celtics

Gordon Hayward leaned toward the Celtics in the final days of his free agency. The All-Star forward said his relationship with Brad Stevens was overstated as a reason for leaving the Utah Jazz for the Boston Celtics. And while he loves the Jazz, the temptation of competing for an NBA title in the Eastern Conference was too much.
Paraphrasing, Hayward said that and more in a podcast with ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
In his first exclusive interview since making the jump to the Celtics, Hayward de…

Hayward: No one thing led him to Celtics, ‘just a gut feeling’

In the end, what was it that led this summer’s most coveted free agent, Gordon Hayward, to finally choose the Celtics? “I don’t know if there was one thing,” Hayward told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on “The Woj Podcast” released Monday. “I think if I would’ve stayed in Utah, we would’ve been really good. It would’ve been a great situation for me. My family would have been happy. We loved it there. “It was a different feeling in Boston that we had. It was like a gut feeling. When we broke it down, the city, the coaching staff, the players. The feeling of putting on a Boston Celtics uniform and competing for a title outweighed everything.” MORE CELTICS Report: Celtics inquire about a potential Kyrie

John Wall Could Own the East Sooner Than You Think

The Washington Wizards received great news Friday, as franchise point guard John Wall announced he would accept the team’s supermax contract extension offer. Wall’s extension coincides with swingman Otto Porter also signing a max deal this summer, solidifying the team’s young core of Wall, Porter and shooting guard Bradley Beal. All three are signed through at least 2020, and Washington will likely have to continue to dip into the luxury tax to ensure it remains a contender throughout the length of their deals.

Rudy Gobert not mad at Gordon Hayward, but wishes Jazz exit had been better

LAS VEGAS –? Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert says he isn’t angry at Gordon Hayward for choosing to leave for the Boston Celtics, but expressed disappointment with the manner in which the All-Star small forward’s free-agency decision occurred. “You cannot be mad at somebody for wanting to play for another team,” Gobert told ESPN while watching the Jazz’s summer league team in Las Vegas. “It’s just the way he handled it, that’s the thing I didn’t like. I’m happy for him at the same time. I hope he’s going to be happy over there and get what he’s looking for.” The Jazz were left in limbo for the six hours between the time that ESPN’s Chris Haynes broke the news that Hayward intended to sign with the

NBA: Utah Jazz wrap up Las Vegas Summer League with easy win over Milwaukee Bucks

Las Vegas • Utah Jazz coach Zach Guthrie noticed the energy in pregame warmups. His team was ready to play, ready to close out the Las Vegas Summer League with a strong performance. “There are plenty of teams who go through the motions,” Guthrie said. “So the guys deserve a lot of credit for bringing it.” The result was a 97-76 win over the Milwaukee Bucks, Utah’s first of the week after an 0-4 start. With lottery pick Donovan Mitchell sitting for a second consecutive game, first-round pick Tony Bradley played his best game of the week, scoring 19 points and grabbing eight rebounds.

Report: Jazz signing Ekpe Udoh to two-year, $6.5 million contract

The Jazz reached deals with Thabo Sefolosha and Jonas Jerebko that exceed the mid-level exception, meaning Utah will likely waive Boris Diaw – whose $7.5 million salary is fully unguaranteed and becomes fully guaranteed Saturday – to create cap room. The other shoe dropped today on that space – with center Ekpe Udoh coming to Utah. Euroleague star center Ekpe Udoh has agreed to a two-year, $6.5M deal with the Utah Jazz, league sources tell The Vertical.

Report: Jonas Jerebko agrees to two-year deal with Jazz

A couple of days after Sports Illustrated gave the Celtics a “C” grade for their offseason, The Sporting News has declared the C’s one of the winners of NBA free agency.  The Celtics join the likes of James Harden ($230 million deal) and Oklahoma City Thunder GM Sam Presti (landing Paul George in a lopsided trade) on the winning side of the NBA’s frenzy, according to Sean Deveney. Boston got the big score of the offseason by signing Jazz free agent Gordon Hayward, pairing him with his former college coach, Brad Stevens, and putting the Celtics that much closer to the Cavaliers in the East. The Celtics now have a core of Hayward, Al Horford and Isaiah Thomas, as well as some young players who

Report: Jazz signing Thabo Sefolosha to two-year $10.5 million contract

The Jazz lost their biggest star in Gordon Hayward, but they’re not slipping quietly into irrelevancy. Free agent Thabo Sefolosha has agreed to a two-year, $10.5M deal with the Utah Jazz, league sources tell The Vertical. Gobert says he didn’t like the way Hayward handled exit from Jazz

Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert tells ESPN he’s happy for Gordon Hayward but says of his former teammate leaving Utah for Boston, “just the way he handled it, that’s the thing I didn’t like.” Hayward announced his decision to leave the Jazz and join the Celtics in an essay on the Players’ Tribune website on July 4. Gobert said Hayward didn’t tell his Utah teammates he was leaving before that.  “You cannot be mad at somebody for wanting to play for another team,” Gobert sad. ”It’s just the way he handled it, that’s the thing I didn’t like. NBA Summer League: Six Players Turning Heads

Disclaimer: Rob Mahoney wrote about Jayson Tatum on Tuesday, so we’ll skip him for the purposes of this list (which he belongs on). First things first, Mitchell had eight (!) steals in Tuesday’s loss to Memphis…midway through the third quarter. The Jazz obviously lost Gordon Hayward but with Ricky Rubio coming in, Dante Exum entering sink-or-swim territory and now Mitchell in place, they seem to have addressed their backcourt void in creative fashion.
