With gaping holes to fill, 2017 NBA Draft offers Kings several options

Free agency will play a role, but before they get to spending their $60-plus million in cap space, Vlade Divac, Scott Perry, Ken Catanella and the rest of the front office will try to fill some of their needs via the draft. While the first batch of draft prospects rolled through Sacramento late last week, Vlade Divac, along with European scout Predrag Drobnjak spent the weekend in Istanbul, Turkey at the European Championships. Sharpshooting guard Bogdan Bogdanovic led Fenerbahçe to its first title, further building the hype around one of Europe’s best young stars. Divac acquired the rights to Bogdanovic in a draft day trade last summer when the 6-foot-6 Serbian was tossed in along with picks 13 and 28 for the 9th overall selection in the 2016 NBA Draft.

Barrage Of Baked Goods Leads To Road Rage Shooting

A road rage incident that ended with the shooting and wounding of a man in Manchester in March began with some tossed baked goods. Daequan Martin, 23, who had been staying in East Hartford, appeared in Superior Court in Hartford Wednesday, where he faces charges of first-degree assault, criminal use of a firearm and criminal possession of a revolver. Martin, his girlfriend and two others were joy riding in the girlfriend’s car when some in the car began tossing bagels and other baked goods they received at a Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant at signs and vehicles, according to an arrest warrant. As the group drove along I-384 in Manchester about 12:20 a.m. March 25, someone pelted another car with pieces of bagel.

Orlando Magic have options with 6th pick in NBA Draft

The Orlando Magic now know where they’ll pick during the NBA Draft on June 22. The Magic own the sixth, 25th, 33rd and 35th overall selections. The team had a 36.0 percent chance of receiving the sixth pick — the highest percentage for any single scenario in the lottery — but the result disappointed nonetheless. Washington point guard Markelle Fultz, UCLA point guard Lonzo Ball and Kansas small forward Josh Jackson almost certainly will be off the board before the Magic make their first selection. Here’s a look at some of the players the Magic could consider with their lottery pick. De’Aaron Fox First, a critical caveat: Chances are that Fox, a lightning-fast point guard who led Kentucky to the

Sixers open to all options — including trade — with 3rd pick

The 76ers secured a top-three pick for the fourth straight year in Tuesday’s NBA Draft Lottery. They will pick third overall for the third time during that four-year span courtesy of the pick swap that former GM Sam Hinkie engineered in a 2015 trade with the Kings.  The downside of picking third is that top tier guards Markelle Fultz and Lonzo Ball will almost certainly come off the board with the first two picks. However, there will be plenty of All-Star level prospects remaining for the Sixers to choose from.  With the top two picks all but locked in, you could argue that the draft actually starts when the 76ers go on the clock. 1. Boston Celtics – Markelle Fultz, guard, Washington (6-4/195)

After Sixers land No. 3 pick, owner shouts “thank you Sam Hinkie”

Philadelphia may not have stuck with Sam Hinkie, but his process continues to stick with them. The Sixers will pick third in the NBA Draft next month because former GM Hinkie flat-out schooled the Sacramento Kings in a 2015 trade: The Kings got the rights to Arturas Gudaitis (the 47th pick in the 2015 draft) and Luka Mitrovic (60th pick) while the Sixers got Nik Stauskas, Jason Thompson, Carl Landry, and the rights to swap picks this year, plus another future first rounder. The Kings were set to pick eighth this year, but the lottery was kind to them and they jumped up to third — higher than the Sixers (fifth) so Philly chose to swap.

Swap Kings: Sixers Ride SAC Pick to No. 3, What Is Hinkie May Never Die

After the Philadelphia 76ers jumped up from 4 to 3 via Sacramento Kings pick swap, I looked around the Rights to Ricky Sanchez Lottery Party expecting the moment’s disappointment at not getting 1 or 2 to give way to overwhelming gratitude, if not outright ecstasy, as the many implications of the moment had a chance to settle in for the TTPers in the crowd. Instead, as fans filed out of Xfinity Live, everyone still seemed to be mid-negotiation — weighing jumping up to 3 against not getting 1 or 2, and landing the Kings pick swap vs. not having the Lakers pick convey. It’s understandable for Sixers fans to feel mixed emotions about what transpired on Tuesday. As much bargaining as I did with myself going into the night, there’s two words you could have told me before the draft that would have made all other worldly concerns irrelevant: Pick Swap.

2017 NBA Mock Draft: Fultz To Celtics At No. 1?

For all of the nervous energy in the room at last night’s draft lottery, reduced stakes by and large prevailed as the Celtics went home happy with the No. 1 selection, the Lakers held onto their pick (and moved up to No. 2) and the Sixers actually got to use one of those patented Hinkie pick swaps to move up a couple spots and draft third. Finally, the C’s cash out in full on one of those Nets picks and spend the house money on Fultz, who’s not only the most well-rounded player in this draft, but fits with Boston’s needs as a versatile backcourt piece who will be able to handle early minutes without heavy pressure.

The NBA Draft Lottery order is now set and the Boston Celtics have the top pick

Thanks to a 4-year-old trade with the Brooklyn Nets, the Boston Celtics had a 25% chance of landing the No. 1 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft and that’s exactly what they got during Tuesday’s NBA Draft Lottery. In addition to the Celtics now owning the top pick in the draft, the Los Angeles Lakers were the other big winner as they got the second pick in the lottery. If their pick had fallen out of the top three, they would have lost their pick to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Kings’ 2017 NBA Draft Lottery scenarios: Best case, worst case, most likely

Programming note: Watch the Kings NBA Draft Lottery show with Jim Kozimor and Jon Wilson tonight at 5pm, streaming live right here. The anticipation is excruciating. Hope springs eternal. Reality is brutal. It’s Draft Lottery night 2017. It’s complicated. That is the only way to describe the Sacramento Kings 2017 NBA Lottery that will unfold on Tuesday evening. Usually the night consists of nothing more than a bunch of ping pong balls in a hopper and a wall of numerical possibilities. Sacramento can only dream of that scenario. The Kings cannot receive the top overall selection. Through a combination of two possible picks, they can land at two, three, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven,
