Kevin Durant: Wanted ‘underpaid’ fellow Warriors to get salaries they deserve

Kevin Durant said he took things into his own hands to keep the Golden State Warriors together by signing for less than he could have and dismissed criticism of his decision. Durant could have secured a max of $34 million per year from the Warriors but signed for $25.9 million this season, less than he made in 2016-17 ($26.5 million). He explained his decision to The Athletic on Thursday, saying he wanted to ensure that Andre Iguodala, Shaun Livingston and Stephen Curry could get paid “what they deserve.” “Well, I’m a smart guy and I want to keep this thing going, and looking at Andre and Shaun and Steph, they all should make the most money that they can make and get what they deserve. Report: Knicks, Rockets “re-engaged” on Carmelo Anthony trade talks, still major hurdles

The Knicks and Rockets are back at it. The Knicks want to trade Carmelo Anthony so they can build around Kristaps Porzingis. ‘Melo is good with that so long as he is traded only to Houston (he has the no-trade clause to get his way, and with the Kyrie Irving situation Cleveland is now off the table). The Rockets would love to add Anthony, but they need a third team to take on Ryan Anderson‘s contract (three years, $60 million, the Knicks don’t want it) and no team has been willing to do that without serious sweeteners — such as two high first round picks.

‘Swarm A.I.” Predicts Kyrie Irving Will Stay in Cleveland

Cleveland Cavaliers star Kyrie Irving requested a trade in late July, reportedly because he wants to carve out his own identity away from LeBron James’s shadow — or maybe because he thinks James is leaving in a year anyway and doesn’t want to be stuck on a rebuilding team. Unlike, say, disgruntled New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony, Cleveland isn’t under all that much pressure to trade Irving. If the Cavs want to hang onto Irving heading into next season, they certainly can.
