Mike Brown responds to Tyronn Lue’s opinion: ‘It’s cute’

On Thursday, the Hawks officially hired Travis Schlenk to be their new general manager. Schlenk, who joined the Warriors prior to the 2004-05 season, delivered a message to Dub Nation on Thursday morning. “The thing that I’m gonna remember most about my time in Golden State is the fan base,” Schlenk declared on 95.7 The Game. “When I first got there in 2004 — sitting behind the bench and the team was winning 32, 36 games every year — and you’d look out and there would still be 18,000 people in the stands every game and they were into it. “We always said, ‘Man, if you could get a winner here this place would go crazy.’ We got a small taste of that with the ‘We Believe’ Warriors 10 years ago.

Paul George’s All-NBA shortfall paved way for a cavalcade of speculation

Paul George is still embracing Kobe Bryant. Trade rumors and free-agency speculation have followed Paul George throughout his penultimate contract year, but now that we know he was left off the All-NBA rosters — thus lessening his financial incentive to re-sign with the Indiana Pacers — the rumors and speculation have gone into overdrive. The Atlanta Hawks desperately wanted George, Damian Lillard endorsed a deal for him now, the Los Angeles Lakers are biding their time for his services, and there may or may not be mutual interest between George and both the Lakers and Boston Celtics.

Muskegon Heights’ hoops from 1957 ranks among all-time greatest teams

MUSKEGON, MI – Arguably, one of the greatest basketball players to come out of Muskegon was also on one of its greatest all-time teams. Ed Burton was an unstoppable force on the hardcourt, leading Muskegon Heights to back-to-back Class A state championships in 1956-57. Add on a state championship in 1954, giving the Tigers three titles in four years, helped establish a prep dynasty that is among the finest in Michigan high school history. The Muskegon Heights team that won the title in 1957 is included in the search for Muskegon’s top all-time team in area history. Voting in the MLive.com poll continues until 9 a.m. Tuesday. 10 NBA Stars Who Have Been Overshadowed by LeBron James

Back when Michael Jordan still played, his greatness overshadowed others in the game — to the point where people forgot just how good those other athletes were. Dominique Wilkins, for example, averaged 26.4 points per game in 12 seasons with the Atlanta Hawks. Fans remember Karl Malone as much for losing to Jordan in the NBA finals as anything, and he ranks second on the all-time scoring list.

Boston Globe’s Dan Shaughnessy slams Celtics for wearing all black to Game 6

Every playoff game is crucial, but the finality of Game 7 will hit most of the Wizards in a hostile environment tonight at TD Garden. Ian Mahinmi knows what it’s like when he was with the Indiana Pacers, and he was a vital piece off the bench for the Dallas Mavericks 2011 NBA championship team that upset the Miami Heat. The Wizards are tasked with having to win at a venue where they’ve only found creative ways to lose in the last few years. “Game 7s are fun,” said Mahinmi, who was the starting center for the Pacers in a Game 7 loss to the Toronto Raptors in the first round last year, a reserve in 2014 when the Pacers beat the Atlanta Hawks in a first-round Game 7 and in a Game 7 loss to the Miami Heat in the 2013 conference finals.

During the season, they again reportedly put him on the market then told other teams, Millsap himself and the public he’d stay in Atlanta. The answer could partially explain why the Hawks demoted Mike Budenholzer (former president) and Wes Wilcox (former general manager).
