Is #TheReturn getting a reboot? Report says there’s a possibility Derrick Rose comes back to Bulls

When your team is no longer in playoff contention it’s always a good time to look forward. The Bulls finally have a direction after trading Jimmy Butler on draft night and will go to a youth movement to build the talent pool back up. And with free agency pretty much wrapped up (although Derrick Rose is making noise) it’s time to look at where Fred Hoiberg’s group stands among the teams looking for the most ping-pong balls on Lottery night next May. The numbers in parentheses are the projected over-under win totals in Las Vegas: Brooklyn Nets (20.5 wins) The good news? Brooklyn had an excellent offseason. The bad news? It’s going to take way more than one good string of moves to fix this mess.

That time Gregg Popovich gave Stephen Jackson the choice between smoking weed and a championship

Nobody knows how to motivate Stephen Jackson quite like Gregg Popovich. Stephen Jackson, aka Captain Jack, spent Wednesday in Bristol, Connecticut, so we were treated to more tales from a man who has admitted to never working out in the summer and smoking weed before games during his 14-year career. In response to a question on Ryen Russillo’s radio show about his best summer league story, Jackson offered not just his best story, but the best story.

What it takes to buy the Houston Rockets

HOUSTON – Now that the Houston Rockets are up for sale, one thing is for sure, it’s going to take a lot of money to land this NBA team. Three NBA teams have been sold in the last five years, the Atlanta Hawks sold for $850 million, the Milwaukee Bucks sold for $550 million and the Los Angeles Clippers made history when they sold for $2 billion. Former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer bought the Clippers for that billion dollar price tag on his own. What’s more common though is what happened in Atlanta and Milwaukee. Billionaire businessman Antony Ressler assembled a group to buy the Hawks. Two wall street titans Marc Lasry and Wesley Edens teamed up to buy the Bucks. But the Rockets will be a whole

Sixers open space for startups at training complex in Camden

With a new team comes a new podcast. After recording 40 episodes last year for Yahoo!’s The Vertical, newly signed Sixers guard JJ Redick has now joined UNINTERRUPTED, a digital media company started by LeBron James and business partner Maverick Carter that has already gotten contributions from star athletes like Serena Williams, Draymond Green and Rob Gronkowski.  But Redick is the first athlete on the site to be the sole host of his own podcast, The Chronicles of Redick. His first episode, which dropped Wednesday morning, featured one of his new bosses, Sixers president Bryan Colangelo.  Together, Redick and Colangelo discussed the fast-paced process that ultimately led the Sixers to ink the

Report: Hawks signing Ersan Ilyasova to one-year, $6 million contract

The Hawks are rebuilding – or at least should be. Arguably their third- and fourth-best players also left in free agency (Tim Hardaway Jr to the Knicks, Thabo Sefolosha to the Jazz). After signing Dewayne Dedmon (who turns 28 next month) to a 1+1 contract, the Hawks are adding Ilyasova (listed at 30) on a one-year deal.

Hawks CEO makes good on his promise, will host and pay for couple’s wedding

Thanks to a successful ‘Swipe Right Night’ back in 2015, Atlanta Hawks CEO Steve Koonin is now making good on his promise to foot the bill for a couple’s wedding who hit it off at the Hawks’ event. Koonin told the Atlanta Journal Constitution in March 2016 that if the couple of Avery Armstrong and Ben McCleskey ever got married, he would pay for the wedding and the Hawks would host the event. Now, one year later, the couple has a baby and plans to get hitched — all expenses paid by Koonin. The Hawks social media account replied with confirmation that, in fact, the deal was still on. But for good measure, Koonin issued a statement on the team website, too. “Avery and Ben: We are super excited

NBA rumors: Lakers sign Caldwell-Pope; sights now set on Rondo

The money keeps flowing as NBA free agency continues with huge contracts being granted left and right to players as nearly $3 billion in guaranteed money as being given to players so far this offseason. Among the biggest deals of the week was James Harden’s record-setting $228 million contract extension to remain with the Houston Rockets through 2022-23. Free agents can sign contracts at any time now that the NBA’s moratorium period has ended.

NBA teams were reportedly ‘startled’ by the Knicks offering $71 million to a 25-year-old guard they had previously traded away

The New York Knicks made one of the biggest and most puzzling splashes in NBA free agency this summer when they inked Tim Hardaway Jr. to a four-year, $71 million contract. Hardaway averaged a career-high 14 points per game last season for the Atlanta Hawks, but by most indications, the Knicks’ offer was an overpay. Two reports said the Hawks planned to offer $45-48 million to Hardaway.

DeMarre Carroll talks trouble in Toronto: ‘A lot of guys didn’t trust each other’

DeMarre Carroll says the Raptors suffered some a lack of trust last season. Two summers ago, the Toronto Raptors gave DeMarre Carroll a four-year, $60 million contract in the hope that he’d continue the individual development that made him one of the NBA’s top 3-and-D wings with the Atlanta Hawks, and that he’d help the Raptors become a team that could contend for an NBA Finals berth. Two days ago, the Raptors attached a lottery-protected first-round pick to Carroll to offload the final two years of his deal on the Brooklyn Nets.

Bulls Talk Podcast: Should Bulls fans be concerned?

Rebuilding is painful and never pretty, even if the steady stream of clanked jumpers and disorganized play from the Chicago Bulls Monday was only indicative of the hazards of Summer League as opposed to a Tuesday night in Philadelphia. But even with the recent developments of an Eastern Conference that’s now following in the Bulls’ footsteps, making next season sure to be a Tank Tour of epic proportions, Bulls general manager Gar Forman isn’t having any second thoughts about trading Jimmy Butler on draft night to start this long and arduous process. The Indiana Pacers traded Paul George to Oklahoma City and will take a step back this season, along with the Atlanta Hawks looking like a franchise
