Gordon Hayward discusses reasons for move to Celtics

Gordon Hayward leaned toward the Celtics in the final days of his free agency. The All-Star forward said his relationship with Brad Stevens was overstated as a reason for leaving the Utah Jazz for the Boston Celtics. And while he loves the Jazz, the temptation of competing for an NBA title in the Eastern Conference was too much.
Paraphrasing, Hayward said that and more in a podcast with ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
In his first exclusive interview since making the jump to the Celtics, Hayward de…

Derrick Favors puts house on market, says he’s just downsizing

Little things can move the needle in a wild offseason of trade rumors.
Here’s one: Veteran Utah Jazz forward Derrick Favors’ house is listed for sale.
The four-bedroom address in North Salt Lake is appearing on real-estate websites after being posted Wednesday, but The Tribune has learned that the 25-year-old forward is selling his house to downsize and plans to move elsewhere in the Salt Lake area.
The 6-foot-10 big man has played most of his career in Utah after being traded to the Jazz as a r…

Jazzman Boris Diaw taking in sights of Southern Utah, Nevada this summer

Wearing a grey Jazz hat, a jacket and pants, Jazz forward Boris Diaw is currently on quite an adventure — hiking the mountains and deserts of Utah and Nevada — and chronicling all the sights on his Instagram page.
Accompanied by his two dogs, Diaw hiked up Wheeler Peak in Nevada’s Great Basin National Park recently, climbing close to the 12,000-foot summit. He’s spending this week camping and hiking in Canyonlands National Park.
Diaw, a talented amateur photographer, has posted over 20 Insta…

Jazz: Illinois’ Malcom Hill shows promise in pre-draft workout

Illinois’ Malcolm Hill was a late addition to Saturday morning’s Utah Jazz pre-draft workout. But he was able to make an impression regardless.
Shooting the ball off screens, showcasing his scoring ability and his playmaking acumen, Hill was able to endear himself to Jazz brass in a workout that also featured 7-foot-6 Tacko Fall from the University of Central Florida.
“[Hill] is a very good player,†Jazz VP of Player Personnel Walt Perrin said. “He had a good year this year, but not a great ye…

Jazz: George Hill to miss Game 4

Jazz point guard George Hill will miss Game 4 of the Western Conference semifinals Monday night against the Golden State Warriors at Vivint Smart Home Arena, coach Quin Snyder said before the game.
Hill has missed the past two games of the series with a toe injury, and Shelvin Mack has stepped into the starting lineup in Hill’s place. Mack is the team’s third-leading scorer (10.3 points per game) behind Gordon Hayward and Rudy Gobert through three games in the series. Mack will start on Monday …

Quin Snyder: We need to play with more desperation early

Whether you call it urgency or desperation, Jazz coach Quin Snyder would like to see more of it from his team from the opening tip of Saturday night’s Game 3 of the Western Conference semifinals.
The Jazz return to Salt Lake City trailing 0-2 in their series with the two-time defending conference champion Golden State Warriors. The Warriors have led by six points at the end of the first quarter of Game 1 and by 12 point at halftime. The Warriors jumped out to a 18-point, 33-15, lead after the op…

Utah Jazz shootaround: Jazz want to make statement in Game 1 that they won’t be pushed around

San Francisco • The Golden State Warriors already had one shootaround today, getting in some light workouts and game planning ahead of Game 1 of their Western Conference semifinal matchup. The Utah Jazz want to make sure the league’s best team doesn’t think they’ll be getting another one tonight at Oracle Arena.
“I think this is an important game for us to let them know that we’re here and it’s not going to be a walkthrough or anything,†Jazz forward Gordon Hayward said.
Hayward was smiling afte…

Jazz shootaround: Jazz must try to impose their will early in Game 6

With a win tonight in Game 6 at Vivint Smart Home Arena, the Utah Jazz can win their first playoff series since 2010, a milestone for the current roster and the rebuilding effort spearheaded by general manager Dennis Lindsey and the coaching staff led by Quin Snyder.
All the Jazz have to do is beat a Clippers team starving for postseason success and led by one of the best point guard of his generation in Chris Paul. At this point in the best-of-seven series, both teams know exactly what they’ve…

Jazz shootaround: Rocking arena presents challenges for home team, too

The Utah Jazz are especially preparing for crowd noise as they get ready for Friday night’s Game 3 against the Los Angeles Clippers
That’s because Vivint Smart Home Arena is expected to be loud.
It’s Utah’s first home playoff game since 2012, and probably the first home playoff game since 2010 where the home team has a decent chance to win, even without Rudy Gobert. The Jazz were swept by the San Antonio Spurs in the first round in 2012.
The crowd noise has the potential to cause issues for th…
