Ryan Poehling’s Journey to the NHL Draft

It’s not every day that you see three brothers play on the same hockey team. For some kids that grow up playing hockey, the thought of playing competitively with an older brother let alone two is only a dream, but for 2017 NHL Draft prospect Ryan Poehling, that dream has been a reality. The Poehling Brothers Ryan and his older twin brothers Jack and Nick not only played together at Lakeville North High School in Lakeville, Minnesota, but they skated together on the same line. The twin seniors and Ryan, a sophomore, led the team to an undefeated Minnesota State Championship in 2015. Both Ryan and Jack scored goals and Nick had two assists and an empty-net goal in the State Championship game against

Marcel Dionne praises Aly Raisman’s legs, creeps out NHL Awards (Video)

The NHL Awards aren’t exactly known for their blinding star power when it comes to presenters. Hockey Hall of Famer Marcel Dionne, 65, was paired with U.S. gold medal winning gymnast Aly Raisman, 23, who is a huge Boston Bruins fan.

Haggerty: Loss of Colin Miller not a significant one for Bruins

There will be some that will absolutely crucify the Bruins for losing Colin Miller in Wednesday night’s expansion draft, and rail against an asset that was lost for nothing. It could have been much worse for the Black and Gold as some teams were shipping first round picks to Vegas to shelter their own players from expansion selection, and other teams were losing essential players like James Neal, Marc Methot and David Perron from their respective rosters. The B’s didn’t entertain overpaying simply to avoid losing a useful player, and clearly, they did lose a talented, still undeveloped player in the 24-year-old Miller, who now may be flipped to the Toronto Maple Leafs in a side deal with Vegas.

At 8am eastern time the NHL said they would begin announcing trades made around the expansion draft, so I hope you’re excited! 2017 NHL expansion draft results: All the Golden Knights’ trades – SBNation.com We bid farewell to Branden Leipsic, chosen by the Golden Knights from the bunch if AHLers and UFAs we offered them. Auston Matthews and Mitchell Marner were named to the NHL All Rookie Team, sadly William Nylander was snubbed in favour of Patrik Laine. Mike Babcock was snubbed for the Jack Adams again, it went to Sergei Bobrovsky John Tortorella. It was a busy

Finding Oscar Lindberg’s Replacement at Center

On two different occasions, I warned that losing Oscar Lindberg was the worst (realistic) outcome of the 2017 expansion draft. So of course, the Rangers did lose Lindberg to Vegas. Rangers fans should be upset, but should not blame management. The gap between him and other options was not high enough to justify whatever trade it would have required to keep him. In terms of options within the team’s control, losing him for nothing seems to have been the least bad option. So it goes. Life continues. As I advised, replacing him will not be easy. Good centers are in-demand for a reason; they don’t exactly grow on trees. The Rangers will have to fill the hole in some way, though. Let’s first cross

Thursday’s Dump & Chase: Goodbye James

Nashville Predators News David Poile Named 2017 NHL General Manager of the Year – Nashville Predators Despite whatever you think of losing Neal, don’t doubt for one second that Poile has a plan. He should have won this award a few times by now. Around Hockey Главная (Home) | The Players’ Tribune / Vladmir Tarasenko I love how they didn’t fix all of his grammar syntax. It’s a lovely read. Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews wins Calder Trophy – Sportsnet.ca Honestly, all the love in the world to Matthews, but I would’ve gone Werenski-Laine-Matthews. Without Zach Werenski, the Blue Jackets would have been a bottom three team in the NHL. Laine had more points per game than Matthews. If you give

NHL 18 Hands-on Impressions: Will NHL’s New Mode Be EA’s Answer to Rocket League?

NHL 18 is grappling with the same issue a lot of hardcore sports sims are facing at the moment: getting fresh blood into a comparatively hardcore genre that is mostly saturated. But EA’s hockey sim is going in a rather different direction from its peers. Where Madden 18 is featuring an ambitious new story mode, NHL 18 is going back to its arcade roots with NHL Threes—a three-on-three mode with colorful arenas and super fast-paced scoring. Aside from its bigger, more boisterous UI and brand new commentary, NHL Threes differs from the core game in a number of crucial ways. The rink is much smaller, resulting in chaotic, end-to-end rushes; and outside of the opening draw of the period, faceoffs

2017 NHL MOCK DRAFT: Ottawa adds some offense with Kole Lind

After Ottawa made a surprising run to the conference finals, being one win away from the Cup finals. The Senators team though struggled on offense, riding the coattails of Erik Karlsson and a good run by veteran goalie Craig Anderson to get so far. On defense Ottawa will add Thomas Chabot next year and their defense is well set anyway but their offense is still lacking. Ottawa does have a solid core of forwards built around Mark Stone, Kyle Turris and Mike Hoffman but beyond that it’s not very good. Derrick Brassard is a solid player but nothing special, Bobby Ryan has been quite disappointing in Ottawa. Even in terms of prospects Ottawa doesn’t have a lot of good forwards, but they do have a

The Daily Chum: Assessing San Jose’s options to replace David Schlemko

Last summer, the San Jose Sharks signed defenseman David Schlemko to shore up their third defense pairing. The duo of Brenden Dillon and Roman Polak had been exposed in the 2016 Stanley Cup Final against the speedy Pittsburgh Penguins, and Schlemko’s skating ability was expected to provide a boost on third pairing. That’s precisely what happened, as a noticeably-improved Dillon thrived alongside his new defense partner, and the two finished second and third among Sharks defensemen in both relative and on-ice corsi for and fenwick for percentages. For the first time in years, the Sharks had a truly reliable third defensive pairing. The pair will not play a minute together this season, though,
