Macklemore to donate proceeds from Same Love to marriage equality campaign

His performance of the song at the NRL grand final has drawn the ire of conservatives, including Tony Abbott

American rapper, Macklemore, has pledged to donate the Australian proceeds from his track, Same Love, to the marriage equality campaign.

The artist revealed his plans on the eve of the rugby league final in Sydney, where he will perform the hit song.

Mike Tancred to leave AOC post after becoming ‘casualty of election crossfire’

  • Long-time media director departs organisation after 18 years
  • Exit comes after being cleared of bullying by independent panel

The Australian Olympic Committee has announced its controversial media director, Mike Tancred, is leaving the organisation, as new details of the independent committee’s review into the most recent complaints made against him suggest he was a “casualty of the crossfire” between camps in the AOC presidential election campaign earlier this year.

Australian Olympic Committee’s Mike Tancred cleared of bullying complaints

Long-time AOC media director’s future remains uncertain, however, and lies in the hands of new chief executive Matt Carroll

An independent investigation has cleared the Australian Olympic Committee’s long-time media director, Mike Tancred, of four bullying complaints.

But Tancred, a close ally of the AOC president, John Coates, remains stood down from the organisation, and his future now rests with the new chief executive, Matt Carroll.

The current AOC president, John Coates, faces tough competition from a former Hockeyroo star, Danni Roche, to head Australia’s Olympic movement

On Saturday, Australia’s Olympic movement faces one of its most defining moments. Dozens of Australia’s sporting bodies will vote in a secret ballot to finally end the internal power strugglewithin the Australian Olympic committee. Riding the momentum for change is a former Hockeyroo star, Danni Roche, who is challenging the 27-year grip on the presidency held by John Coates. The ballot has split the loyalties of sporting bodies, energised arch-enemies, and exposed allegations of a toxic workplace culture at the AOC.

John Coates says sorry for ‘sheltered workshop’ remarks in AOC email

‘It was the wrong choice of words,’ says Australian Olympic Committee president, who is facing challenge to his leadership

The Australian Olympic Committee’s president, John Coates, admits he erred when using the term “sheltered workshop” in an internal email that referred to a staff member with cancer.

“It was the wrong choice of words,” Coates said on Thursday, in a statement reported by the ABC and by Fairfax Media.
